LOL - sorry I let the cat out the bag Zero and I meant no disrespect to you or cindi: I didn't know this either until today, I wanted to see what could possibly be a custom install with Auto Updates, normally I just do the express and get it over with Peace

Well, I discovered something today as I did my Auto Update installs: Zero, clwoods I hate to say it but you are misinformed when it comes to the Auto Update feature of the new Windows Update Service. One does have the option to install updates one at a time or remove updates that have been found. You only have to choose a "Custom Install" when you are informed that updates are ready to be installed. Please see the attached images. I just wanted eve
I too am having trouble with this article. Seems to me that you are not all that familiar with the Windows environment - Personally I have never had a problem with WinXP and my laptop only has 512 MB RAM and I run WB, Desktop Sidebar, WinFX; additionally, I have tried Thunderbird and I don;t like it as it doesn;t offer me an intuitive interface whereas Outlook 2003 does. I have tried several versions of Linux all downloaded free off the linux mirrors
It is not so much the browsers that are culprit when it comes to pages displaying incorrectly as it is the web coding standards. Granted I will be the first to admit that IE sucks when it comes to CSS compliancy and FireFox is the best one out there so far (I use both being a web developer and need to develop for a wide variety of users). Most of the sites that appear flaky is because the developer(s) have not gone back and updated their code to be cr
kona - the first link I posted for you to read indicates that the latest Nvidia drivers are not compatible with DirectX9.0c which is latest version of DirectX... It really is not possible for me to diagnose your computer in this manner: however, by reading what you have posted and using deductive theory the problem with SP2 is going to be tied to a configuration involving the hardware/software on your computer in some way shape or form. That
kona - I went to the Nvidia site and found this response: Link in the FAQs. What version of DirectX9 are you using? here is another one you might want to l
I would try a completely different vendor for a video card kona. Do you have a second machine? Are you experiencing the same problems with it? Have you contacted Microsoft Support and explained to them in detail the problems you are experiencing so they can walk you through the repair/uninstall? Using the deductive reasoning theory you only have problems when you install the drivers for the chipset and video card, so that is where the probl
Microsoft's Antispyware program is not large: File Name: MicrosoftAntiSpywareInstall.exe Download Size: 6374 KB Date Published: 2/16/2005 Version: Beta here is a direct link to the download: <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=321CD7A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-D
kona0197 - there are more drivers on your system than just the video card without being able to get my hands dirty and see what you actually have installed on your machine there is no way I can diagnose what is wrong with your machine. I can only share with you my professional experience in repairing SP2 related issues. Again I wasn't accusing you of anythi
LOL - yep I've seen it and yep I agree BillG didn't play nice at all in the beginning - but I believe that people can change over time: even if the changes are small and slow. As long as BillG keeps releasing his bug fixes and service packs at no charge and I can be happy with the computing environment I work in on a daily basis I will continue to use Microsoft Products. I am very much looking forward to Longhorn and IE7 as well as Longhorn S
kona0197 - the only thing i can tell you is that it is a software/hardware incompatibility: that is my experience with SP2 related issues. I have had to do workarounds on a lot of my clients' machines because they just "had" to have a specific program - I have nothing against it, but if someone chooses to install a program that is not "completely" compatibile with WinXP or drivers that are not certified then one has to take the responsibility that the
no offense taken Zero I just wanted to make sure I hadn't stepped on anyone's toes. And I never ment to imply anyone here has anything but a legitimate copy - my comments about the possibility of a pirated copy was only directed to the specific quote from f0r3 above. I agree that there is a lot of software and hardware that does not place nice with WinXP; h
677 MB here. That's covering a 3 1/2 year membership period.
You need to remember that people like us who are tech savvy are aware of these things and do what we must to ensure our systems are up-to-date and secure. clwoods I was not "blaming" anyone I was talking in general terms about the average person not being proactive and installing their updates and patches in a timely manner: I see this everyday with my clients who are run of the mill people and business leaders. I certaily wasn't blaming or
Well, I'm not sayin who, but theres someone I know who has a not so legit (NOT PIRATED) copy of XP Pro that got it from an IT guy who got a "intro" version at a conference he/she went to. No activation process... But when queried about things of this nature he/she said that they never had to do anything of this nature... More lik
yes, but the "Stardock" implies one will receive support from them - I have nothing against users helping users. I am an Editor at a web development community and that is what I do - just my observation and my opinion on the title of the forum, not a judgment...
ok that makes sense, but then I suggest that labeling this forum as "Stardock Support" is misleading.
Glad to say that with the installation of version 2.06a.324 my Subscription error has been resolved. Thanks!
Yes ChrisTH I am using the exact email addy - nothing has changed on my computer except that I installed an update and now SD tells me that my subscription has expired and it hasn't (6 November 2005). I just got an info bubble telling me there is another update available so I am going to install it and see if that fixes the error. And I thought I was notifying them of the issue since I made the original post here in "Stardock Support
I just installed the latest update to Stardock Central and now I am receiving an error telling me that my OD subscription has expired; however, according to the registration information I have it does not expire until 6 November 2005. Have I installed this incorrectly? Is there a fix? Thanks!
clwoods - I am sorry but I have to agree. Adaware, Spybot and Pest Control do not do a good job of catching all the buggers now on the net. I ran those progams as I have always thought highly of them and was very surprised to discover that the Microsoft AntiSpyware caught several entries and files on my systems that the aforementioned programs failed to even recognize as being there. I only run the Microsoft AntiSpyware now and I am happy to
The best solution I have found to date is the Microsoft AntiSpyware. I had several clients who were experiencing the same as you as well as not evenbeing able to connect to web page even though they were online and active. I immediately recognized this as a form of malware or such, ran the standard programs to catch the nasty buggers with no success. I had already installed the AntiSpyware on all of my systems with great results an
No need to apologize.... I remember my corporate days when I dealt with the same amount of email and of course the submitter felt that their email was the most important one and should be answered first and immediately ... I had a minor problem and taking into consideration the things you and the other staff must deal with on a daily basis I w
