Wow, thanks for the quick fix on the unpause speed!
The "an" problems are a problem with our text parsing system. We dynamically create those strings so that modders (and we) can change the name of the building without creating a whole new tooltip. It'll be a while, but we'll get a system together that should address the "a" and "an" correctly.
Cool, thanks for the explanation. Sorry to be so anal; its t

Question: Do replays currently work? I see the option on the main menu, but can't figure out how to record or access them. Suggestion : When a player unpauses, can the game start up again at the last-used speed... so if you are on slow and pause, it'll go back to slow when you re-start? Currently unpause always goes back to normal speed. Typo : When you've built an Engineering Lab, and you mouse over of th
I (and a few friends) found the tutorial kind of off putting, as it didn't really demonstrate the game's full capability (i know tutorials in general arn't supposed to but the Sins one just seemed to drain my enthusiasm to learn the game itself). Mate tried my version on the tutorial and it didn't grasp him at all. He watched me play a normal game and pretty much bought a copy within the hour!
I'm in the same place your friend was. I guess I need to watch a norm
You should just need to go here and click the preorder button under '3 Tokens'. D'oh! (Smacks forehead). Thanks .
Will this be available for pre-ordering, or at least ordering, with tokens at totalgaming.net? I still can't figure out how to use tokens to pre-order the GalCiv II expansion. Maybe I'm missing something at that site. I recall that GalCiv2 was the first game published by Stardock itself. If so, does that make SoaSE the first Stardock-published game done by outside devs? Inquiring minds want to know.
...then using your tokens to obtain the expansion (assuming you're going to download it). Yarlen, any idea how many tokens the expansion will cost? (I have had 5 saved up just for this... )
I thinks the 2-page is fine, tho a bit text heavy. Maybe it will seem less so in a mag. Formatting it like the game's UI is clever. I, for one, do not skip past 2-page ads in gaming mags if the genre is one that interests me. Its ironic, though, that you've written in the past about how GalCiv should not be compared to MoO series, yet one quote you've chosen for the ad does exactly that.
InsideGC2 is back? Nice! What is it?
Sorry, I created a seperate thread on this elsewhere before seeing your item on new reviews. But I just received the new (May) Computer Games Mag with its GalCi2 review. "King of the Cosmos" is the title. 4.5 stars out of 5, and an Editor's Choice designation. Congrats, Brad and Stardock One quote: "Galactic Civilizations II is like
"King of the Cosmos" is the title. 4.5 stars out of 5, and an Editor's Choice designation. Congrats, Brad and Stardock One quote: "Galactic Civilizations II is like a skilled karaoke singer. The tune is not original, but Stardock has a way of making it its own." The review takes up two full pages of the mag -- one page of (so-so) screens, and a full page review.<br/
HOMM5 was the only other game I planned on buying this year. I will not buy it SOLELY because it uses Starforce. It is not worth it to put my computer at risk just to play a game. This is precisely what I was about to write. I have Civ IV, GalCiv II and I planned on adding HoMM to my gaming diet. N
Brad -- I'm not sure I understand this. Many of us pre-ordered through EBgames or other e-tailers weeks or months ago. Those pre-February pre-orders should indicate a certain level of demand, lower than the February level, but a level of demand nonetheless. So why is it that Take 2 was unable to deliver to EB enough by Feb. 21 to at least satisfy the pre-February pre-orders? The EBgames.com customer rep I spoke to said they have not received a single copy! The 'surprised
who knows if there feeding you a line or not? I agree, they could be feeding a line... that's why my earlier post said: If true (and I stress IF) this can't make Stardock look good to a major on-line retailer.<
I too just cancelled my EBGames.com order. I did so after speaking to a live human-type person there about what the heck is going on. He said EB had not yet received a single copy of the game from the publisher!! Hence, nothing pre-ordered has shipped... and they placed the item on backorder until they start seeing the product. Has anyone reading these forums gotten word from EB
I have listened to Brad/Frogboy's interviews on Apolyton.net. If you haven't, you should, they're pretty interesting. In one he talks at length about how Strategy First stiffed him for royalties for GalCiv I, something I know many of you are already aware of. I feel guilty, having bought that one retail. If only I'd known.... Now I am ready to pre-order GalCiv II: >>All users who pre-order it will get extra content: Additional ship components, the Galactic Civilizations Desktop and mor
Excellent! Many thanks. The first link was what I had been looking for. The other two will be equally helpful. Thanks for your help.
I'm looking to "relearn" Galciv a bit after a long absense. I recall from a while that there were games posted on another forum (Apolyton?) but linked here, with move-by-move analyses that were helpful. Now I can't find them. I think multiple players took part in them, then posted their strategies with screenshots. Anybody remember this? Yes, I have tried searching, no luck.
I think that all of the people who reported it run 98/ME. It didn't show up on my PCs, which run XP, or I would have caught it before it went out like that.
I just updated AP through Stardock and the missing text is back where it belongs :). I hope it is also back or the others who had this problem. Thanks Cari for your prompt attention to the bug. [Message Edited]
I think that I've fixed this bug. It'll be up in the next update. I've got a few more things to work on before it can go up.
Just to clarify -- the missing text bug is fixed... or are you referring to another bug? If its the text bug, was the problem OS-specific? Just curious. ETA for update? Thanks for your attention this.
Add me to the list. No mission info or objectives. I received the CD version and its v1.50. Win98SE AMD Athlon 1.2 256 RAM Funny thing is, I remember trying the beta version, which I downloaded, when it was first released, and had the mission objectives fine. So some other change in AP along the way caused this. I have a laptop running XP... lets see if it happens there (to be continued).
Thanks Frogboy. Looking forward to your latest gem!
Please don't flame if this answer is obvious, but I've searched the main page and here to find out. I know its gold, but has the CD shipped yet? I pre-ordered in early May and have not gotten any email notice of shipping. And for some reason, my SDC is now crashing and seems unusable, so I can't check there. (I will msg tech support on that :D ). Thanks.
Thanks again folks. Two different strategies in response to my situation are described here -- sure sign of a great game!
I never build military anymore. I use bribes to keep the AIs at bay,
As I mentioned, I did try some bribes but only AFTER being attacked. Too little, too late? My econ is struggling, the loss of the two trade routes doesn't help, and my bribe offers have been rejected -- both my offers of cash to the race that's attacking me and to friendl
Wow. Thanks folks, particulary Star Pilot for putting in so much time to that detailed reply. I can't digest it right now, still have RL to tend to -- but I will use it as my guide to military might :) !
You want your MR to always be ahead of the computers if you never want to be troubled by them.
I assumed (incorrectly) I could just quietly build up a great economy and I would be left alone! Now I know. Onward!
