Thanks for confirming you're deliberately giving us the shaft if we don't want yet another subscription for a desktop cleanup, Dr. W. Good to get it confirmed. I presumed the buy outright would be higher because the software would have a longer lifecycle. Kinda like Plex having a lifetime vs subscription. I've uninstalled it now, I'm not going to play this game. Granted, it's not an airport etc.

The thing that irks me is that £29.99 is 3x the annual cost... so why not just have the purpetual licence as £9.99? I pay £10, I get that year's version. Paying the same as three years' subscription for software that will essentially be 'old' in one year and get no support in not much more than that is very annoying.

So, the upgrade to Fences 5 was in the back end of 2021 and I upgraded to 4 in February 2021 because 3 was janky nagging me and 4 promised to fix some stuff in W10... Which it kinda hasn't. I've since upgraded to W11 and Alignment isn't great, scaling icons seems laggy... ugh. It's not an application that warrants a subscription service.

I just realised I complained about this earlier in the year already, disregard. Nobody cares, and references to alternatives are blotted out. I'll just stick with the bugs in 4 until it finally annoys me enough to just uninstall. The actual positioning and sizing of fences is somewhat janky, esp. if you do certain kinds of layouts. Ah well, it's been a nice run Stardock.

So, I upgraded to v4 in February 2023. I must've missed that a v5 came out not too long after, maybe that fixes my w11 issues. It seems very expensive for something that's just used to tidy my desktop up - especially something that doesn't do it as well as v3 used to (what with flickering, and frequent resizing / repositioning / positional snapping that's a bit off) ...my options to upgrade to v5 that is *maybe* a little better is £7.99 / year or £28.99 flat-out.&

This gets even more buggy. I updated yesterday. Today I get an update popup again - I ALREADY INSTALLED 4.22 And the pricing for 5... £7.99 per year, £29.99 Lifetime, but I only upgraded this last time a year ago. If they're doing a new version every 3 years, then £29.99 isn't the best price if they're going to want you to upgrade to the next version. It's very confusing to be repeatedly expected to pay so much for what is a basic, simple util

I upgraded Fences from 3 to 4 a little while back for Windows 11 support, though I don't feel I got anything out of the deal other than bugs. ...and now they want £20/year or £50 for a one-off payment, just so I can have my desktop slightly tidier and stuff in a little box. That's literally all Fences is for. And 4 wasn't that great an experience; I'd update and then get constant update notifications despite already having the update installed. The back
