Hi, A brief log to show it can be quite hard to get a working update to Elemental (on Vista HP SP2), using a standard non-Admin account. I wanted to upgrade to the beta 1.1, so showed BETAs in Impulse, and pressed update for Elemental. The normal request for the admin password came up, and after that the update started. The update processing seemed to finish OK, extracting 230 datasets. I started the game, but it was still the old version 1.09e. I tried updating at least 5 times,

I was able to recreate the problem, in 1.0.6, when I used the earlier save file and killed the ogre WITH SPELLS ONLY, 2 spells per turn (don't ask me why I could cast 2 spells per turn), and then finishing the battle with auto-combat. When I used the same save file and used auto-combat for the entire battle, the crystal and pumpkin patch spawned correctly, and i could continue. However, that was after I had levelled up to 1.07.025. Weird still, but this info might help in recr

Kryo, I have a save from just after beating the trolls, which I have not yet tried yet to restart from. I will try that first, and will keep you posted (i'm a bit short on spare/playing time right now). Shafk, one of the problems I see is that there is NO crystal resource, NOR the fertile land resource; just 2 iron mines. I remember from the 1.05 pass through the campaign that when I arrived at the ogre's camp, the crystal and fertile land were already present. Anyho

Hi, I originally played a campaign game on 1.05, then upgraded to 1.06.019 so had to start again. In this new campaign, I could proceed up to the fight with the ogre, but no further !!! I did not receive a Pioneer, and there is no Crystal mine or Fertile land space around the ogre's lair, just 2 iron mines: Am I doing som

This would be very helpful. I cannot estimate the number of times I thought "Now where is this planet...?", but I'm sure I've done this VERY often. ANY kind of map info would be useful on the colony screen, even if it would be on a separate screen like the "details" screen of GALCIV 1. Something like the minimap zoomed out to the maximum, with your own zone of influence marked plus an indicator (crosshairs?) for the current planet.

Please keep the forum ! I'm just another one out of the mostly silent majority who likes to read what others do, or have problems with. And this being the official forum, with LOTS of attention from the developers, does give it added value that I fear would not be present on another site, no matter how good these alternatives are.

Would it help if you would get a warning, plus a choice to turn auto-upgrade off, when auto-upgrade would cause such swings in income (or simply whenever auto-upgrades become available)? This would need only to be checked when gaining techs that give upgrades, so would not be too inefficient for the game. Should not be too hard for the AI to handle as well. As long as the results of auto-upgrading are not unexpected, but are explained and can be handled, I agree with Alfonse and Peac

more minor items: - when selecting a bonus tile on the colony management screen, the bonus text also only scrolls when the mouse is on the scrollbar, and then IN THE WRONG DIRECTION, opposite to normal scrolling up/down. - when loading a game, double-clicking on the saved game does NOT load it (you have to press LOAD, unlike in GC 1). I thought I remembered a post from Beta half a year ago that this would be changed, but apparently it was missed. - On reload, your first ship can s

2 very minor items. #1 In the quarterly report, the text only scrolls if the mouse is over the scrollbar, not when it is over the text. This works differently than in e.g. the research screen, where the list of techs scrolls also when the cursor is over the text.. #2 (not in the game at all !! ) When I look at the top of the www.galciv2.com page, I see the message "Welcome null", though I can post under my correct alias. The Metaverse page shows the right alias name.

I have the multimedia, I have sound during the initial video, but the sound stopped after the first research completed. On reloading the game (my flagship showed 4/0 moves left, which also happened in the Beta), the music was again OK until the first popup screen arrived (I met a new alien race) Looking closely at the sound options, I then noticed that they were on 90, on a scale of 0 to 10000. Increasing them to the halfway mark worked fine. Can it be that the slider was re

Brad, rest assured, there are probably a lot of people that DO care about the text. Especially some of the tongue-in-cheek texts, in diplomacy or technology. You could see it as another type of eye candy, like the extras on the ship design. Not essential to the game mechanism, but VERY nice to have, making the enjoyment last. Personally, I like the text better than the ship design graphics, even though that is cool too. As I have posted in the "Dutch" thread, local language translatio

A bit off-topic, but before you accuse me of exposing my daughter to non-suitable games like Civ4: Whatever happened to make Civ 4 rated 12+ (violence)... Those tiny swordsmen killing the barbarian warriors ??? Playing with **weapons** ? Aggressive behaviour ? I wonder, have the people deciding those ratings ever watched the stuff kids are exposed to via cartoons? Or other "harmless" TV programs shown before 20.00 hours ? I don't see Bugs Bunny or Roadrunner get a 12+ rating.. I rec

And yet another Dutchman... A Dutch empire, YES !!! I just finished re-reading some old copies of R.A. Heinlein, where he has Emperor Willem (William) of the house of Orange as Emperor of Man. BTW, CariElf once started a FRAPPR map link on http://www.frappr.com/galacticcivilizations/map , I wonder what happened to that. Hmmm, only 23 members Back to the topic: Personally, I would prefer English (most of the tim

I have seen espionage levels dropping in GC1, but that was just because I was marginally above the required spending limit for that advance, then cut spending to zero, and then the opponent grew in size a bit, thereby raising the threshold. Magus, knowing what techs an opponent has is not related to espionage. We get that info for free on the trade screens. But for the AI improvements & balancing that Brad has been doing, I do hope the AI is also aware of this at certain levels(and ca

Why not simply buy/preorder & download it directly from Stardock once it is available? I have not seen many copies of Galciv 1 in the shops in the Netherlands, but that may be different this time around. And buying direct from Stardock means they WILL get their money, unlike in the past as shown by Frogboy ! You do need a credit card though.

Something I never saw before in beta 5: I had the galactic prison event early in a game, and of course the prisoners escaped. I then fought my first battle of the game, a single ship battle between the 70 HP prisoner ship with 1 MassDriver / 1 Armor and my puny 12HP ship with 2 Missile / 1 Armor. I expected to lose, but not in the way that occurred... After exchanging a couple of shots, the prisoner ship suddenly fired a shot that did 5 damage.....FIVE ... as first shot of

Using a scroll mouse, zoom-in / zoom-out with the cursor over the minimap will center it nicely. That's 2 tiny movements with a finger of your hand on the mouse... Is that too much diddling/noodling ? A shortcut key would need interaction via the keyboard... probably more work for the player than using the scroll mouse. From a usability viewpoint, I'd say no to having a key. What Lucky Jack seems to want is more of a toggle option that will either make the minimap be slaved to th

bug: I'm still able to play with 10 opponents (just as reported for 4B or 4C) by selecting 9 opponents, then clicking on the last unused opponent en pressing ENABLE... The list of opponents stays at "Nine (9)". I tried this on a small map, to see if everything worked OK. When I finally contacted the 10th opponent, the RELATIONS tab on the Foregn Policy menu showed the 10th race correctly (with a scrollbar) The UNITEP PLANETS tab races list already came with a scrollbar to show al

What about each design you have showing the tech level required for each component or the number of tech levels still needed (maybe color coded, so green = OK, yellow = 1 short, red = 2 or more levels short) per component, plus a simple check to see if you still need additional miniaturization? That should not be too problematic ? Or is that part of that legendary ship-library-manager ?

Tourism.... I've posted a question on how tourism works in the general forum, but I think it's a bug that upon reloading a game tourism starts out at ZERO again... Something missing in the save game info ? Unless tourism is based on influence, and is recalculated (like influence) over a number of turns. On a close to evenly balanced budget, with an almost empty treasury, it does make the difference between going into debt or staying in the black (green) on a reload.

on #119 and #121 (Trade): Popup Target, what I meant was that the message lists the lower limit of the trading, and not the average. I assume that the program could easily calculate the average, and report that. IMO, it is more useful to know that in the end your average income from a trade route (base, without trade modifiers) is 60, and that you start out with a small fraction of that (8)... I do recognize that from GC1, but that had the same reporting problem.... I would much prefe

Does anyone know what influences tourism in Galciv 2? I've seen it go up and down, sometimes restarting at zero after a reload of a save game, but I cannot find what causes the changes. Is it related to morale level; to general approval; to influence; to the number of alien races within reach?

The value of trade is not being reported consistently. When I start the first trade route, I got a message with "the average gains will be 8 bc". The route started out giving 8 bc, and never dropped below that, but instead increased to 60 bc per turn over the first there-and-back-again cycle. I was not complaining too hard within that game, but it looks wrong..
