Is there any way to get the mini-map, once zoomed in, to move with the main map so both keep the same central point of focus? I get the mini-map to re-center to the main map focus by a quick zoom out, zoom in two-step. If it followed automatically, that would be great!

Thanks for all the advice given above. Though I updated SDC through Stardock Central the first time, something did not happen correctly even if I had 2.29a.374. Not giving up, I just followed "therjw" and "Supreme Shogun" advice and re-installed SDC from Brad's link -- beginning of this thread. Now all four items of GC2 are in the games window, so I was able to select all the items for download, which is going on now. Did not need to enter serial number yet, so I hope at
It appears that I made an incorrect assumption. I have a TotalGaming subscription, which gave me access to GalCiv 2 Beta. I did some testing and made a few posts, but nothing spectacular by way of game testing -- not a whole lot of time to play. However, I thought the TotalGaming subscription was adequate to gain access to this pre-loading. I downloaded SDC 2.29a as directed. I thought I was following directions with validating my TotalGaming serial number, but GalCiv 2
I am in favor of player summitted issues for the UP. Off the top of my head, one theory (have no idea what this would mean in hours of work for developers), would be to have the proposed issue rotate through the civilizations. There could be a fixed number of topics with choices A,B, or C, as in GC1, but when the player's turn came up, she/he would get to choose the topic. With the work on the AI so advanced, when each AI's turn came up, they could pick an issue that fit their alignment and s
Not to belabor my point -- #5 -- though it will appear that's what I'm doing -- no flaming, please! 1) I do accept Suralle's comment (#6) that if I can beat an enemy's ships, why would I want them as part of a peace negotiation?! However, they do make good canon fodder to protect planets from invasion, etc. Or, even if I have better ships, maybe they would still be better than other enemy races. 2) While we can trade ships outside of war, as Gunner 243 notes (#22), once
Not exactly a dislike, because I adjust to the circumstance, but a frustration all the same: I don't know about the Gold version, but neither GalCiv 1 nor Beta GalCiv 2 allow for trading and/or buying constructors from other races. Every other ship, flagship included, could be exchanged (for a price), but constructors never show up on the list. If someone could please explain why? Second, about ships, (also in both GC1 and Beta GC2. When negotiating a peace treaty, we can demand a
I like using the Metaverse with GC 1 to keep track of my scores. I thought it was mentioned that GC 2 will have an internal score table with charting abilities, e.g., level of difficulty, turns for victory, etc. Is this true, or will the Metaverse still be the only way to keep track of scores? Second, if we can modify the xml files as per CariElf's thread which includes changing the home world PQ, will the "Metaverse" button still give a true "non-modded" game? Seems the game will
Thanks, Peace! I did have that figured out. I suppose I'm being nit-picky, but if the developers want help with polishing the product, consistancy seems important. I'll enjoy the game regardless because even typos don't bother me if the game is stable.
I agree with the annoyance of the super-abundance of minor races. I suggested some time back that some choices about minors be allowed in the set-up screens, not just whether we want them or not, but how many can show up, what level of intelligence they are (therefore, what bonuses they have), etc., just like for the major races. I also questioned the fact that at least with 4d, when minors were added, they could now harvest resources and build starbases -- something they could not do in GalCi
I would like to add my vote in favor of this idea as a great help to the game if it can be implemented and balanced. Thanks, moi-meme. I'm happy to add "myself" in agreement to your idea!
It seems that GC2 is trying to make a move from GC1's "Morale" as a factor to "Approval" as a factor . Or maybe I have this wrong. There are still morale bonuses and the space resource. But Approval takes the place of morale on the planet list. Yet, I do not find approval bonuses on social projects, etc. (unless I have missed something). It seems a bit confusing, at least to me. Should they be the same? Should they be different? Do we need both?
This was happening with 4D also. At least, now, as I experience it, if you set race name, leader, etc. it will not apply to the game you are starting, but it will be there for the next new start. It seems the pref.ini file is read before the choices can be made and not updated. Only with a new start does it update from the prior choices.
Just to add information. I have an nVidia card, but Beta 5 worked fine without needing the patch. Here is the video section from a debug file Display Info Display device 1: Device Name: \\.\DISPLAY1 Card Name: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip Type: GeForce 6800 DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC Key Device: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_00C1&SUBSYS_024510DE&REV_A2 Display Memory: 256.0 MB Current Display Mode: 1280 x 1024 (32 bit) (60Hz)
I have experienced the same problem. I posted a thread about it: cf. "Old problem . . ." However, no one has responded. This appeared in one of the earlier beta releases. I did find a "work-around" for the time being, but I do hope it is fixed. What I have done to get my leader's name and my choice of political party involves a couple steps. First, go through the start-up screens making the choices of political party, abilities, ship colors, and leader names. Second,
I like the challenge of stronger minor races, but there has to be better balance, too. In the 4D game I am playing now, one minor race is mining a morale resouce -- they couldn't do this in GC1, If they are allowed to do this in GC2, then we should be able to trade and/or buy their ships and starbases -- this seems still to be prevented since their ships and starbases do not show up on the diplomacy screen as a trade option. Just to learn the game, I set the major races to "beginner
The game is looking great. However, when I tried to configure myself as human, I choose the Universalist party, but it remains Federalist in the game. Also, I try to change the player name from Alan Bradley but it returns to Alan in the game. The ability choices do stay, and the color changes do stay. (I do like the ability to change colors, by the way!) Tried deleting the raceconfig file, but the same problem occurs with each fresh start.
If these questions are answered elsewhere, I cannot find it, so please point me in the right direction with a link. As well, because I have not gotten too far in a game, some of these questions and suggestions may sound trite to advanced gamers -- please be patient with me. 1) How many ships are actually pre-designed in the game? I have only gotten to Defender class. Will there be better Defender class ships, or do I manually upgrade the base defender? 2) Once I upgrad
When loading a saved game, the research map does not center on the item being researched. Also, already researched items are grey as if they are still un-researched. And un-researched items are colored as if already researched. Also, the saved game when reloaded does not maintain the "Very Fast" Technology Rate from the setup screen.
I certainly like the idea that improved social projects would not be prohibitively priced for later colonies. Especially given our real world experience of how many improvements in technology have dropped prices rather than raised them, new and improved factories, labs, etc. could be built for a relatively similar price as the original -- relative to the number of improvement steps which have been achieved. Example: (in round figures not taken from game and not knowing how the game actually p
I tried BoogieBac's suggestion -- deleted the *.raceconfig file, but when I start a new game, the alignment stays demonic. I'd rather make choices to become demonic (or saintly) rather than start that way. I hope the code will be fixed by the next beta, and certainly for the game release. Thanks!
In trying different starting abilities and political parties, I noticed sometimes Saturn has her rings and sometimes she doesn't. Don't know why this is inconsistent.
I noticed this in the other betas, but thought it was merely because diplomacy was still developing -- all races began as demonic. However, no matter which abilities are political party is chosen, as human I am forced to start demonic. It would seem only fair, as with GCI, to start neutral and let morality choices in the game lead in one direction or the other.
If I may add another minimap issue -- when clicking on the ownership option, the fog of war disappears and the alien race locations are displayed. Doesn't seem correct if they have not been encountered yet, so I'm guessing it's a bug to be reported. Thanks.
Thanks to Lucky Jack and Cari for answering the "window" question, even if I was not clear with the question. [Thanks, too, to Yarlen, for support with the choice of Omega drivers.] As for the window issue, I did mean the overall window of the game itself. I appreciate the graphics problems that would result with the ability to resize the physical window, so I can accept the static game window size. The ability to change the resolution as well as zoom in and out
After a couple e-mails with Cari, I decided to risk her advise and downloaded and installed a third party video driver -- Omega -- and everything turned out fine. The GCconfig program works fine. Yet, one more question about the "windowed" version, is there any way to change the size of the window itself? I was hoping to have just the MS Window border for being able to close down the window without exiting. However, all I get is a box window with alot of waste
