Let's say what we want to mod is simply not a part of the Python part of the game. What sort of ability will we have to mod the game outside of Python? Going back to Civ 4 (again), you had access to the CvGameCoreDLL.dll source code. You could rewrite large portions of the game completely, doing things that weren't possible inside what they allowed in Python. You then recompiled it and released that as part of your mod. Would it not be possible to simply drag and drop entries to where you want them? Something similar to how you can reorder tabs in your browser? With some sort of arrow graphic or line indicating what two entires it will be dropped inbetween?

I can't fathom needing so many USB ports. I don't believe I've ever had more than 2 USB devices plugged into any machine I've ever owned. Right now my desktop has a USB mouse. On rare occasions it has a temporary USB stick or external drive. Maybe if I were transferring files between two external drives I'd have 3 USB devices at once. I cannot imagine what would precipitate me having 4 devices hooked up at once.

It sounds as if you're all saying that classic turn-based is the best, except for the fact that during multiplayer matches it slows everything down to a crawl. On the other hand, simultaneous turns can certainly lead to problems, even though they alleviate the waiting problem. How about simply allowing players to manage their Empire/Civilizations during other players turns? In most turn-based games, when another player is acting, you can't do anything. If you could,

I was having a similar problem as I purchased the game today. Disabling DirectDraw acceleration in 'dxdiag' fixed the problem .

I'd like to chime in on this. Fresh install of Fences as of today (0.96.1650). Fences are not showing. None of the above suggestions alleviate the problem. Running Vista (technically no "Active Desktop"). Solid Background. Desktop spans multiple monitors. Apparently this is still an issue, though I can hardly complain when the thing is free.
