Feb 2026 - Using Fences 6.20 Problem still persists. Can anyone recommend an alternative product that is actually supported?

@sdrohan: After a lot of fiddling around, I managed to get things into a state where it's "workable" again and I no longer look like Kirk in your profile picture. I should be able to work with this until Windows 10 "dies" in 2025. As I pointed out before, I do NOT have this problem on my Windows 11 machines.
@sdrohan: ● Re-installed Fences 5.53 re-booted and switched to "per-monitor-configuration basis" ● Switched scaling to 100% - same overlap - just smaller ● Used the Ctrl + MouseWheel method and this did work, however: You have to do this for each portal individually and then also
@basj: Display Resolution is 1920 x 1080 Scaling is 125% @sdrohan: I set the Layout to "per-monitor-configuration basis" as indicated in your post. [I have an additional option not shown in your post): "store on a per-screen-resolution basis (legacy)"] Unfortunately, the icons are still overlapping the text of the icons above them.
Related: Upgrade from Fences 5.04 to Fences 5.53 on a single monitor system messes up icon spacing in portals: lower icons obscure text of icons above. This happens on Windows 10 [22H2 (OS Build 19045.4412)] - It works properly on windows 11.
Thanks basj!
@ sdRohan There are TWO issues outstanding: (details earlier in this thread) 1. Configure Fences not accessible via right-click menu (Work-around: create shortcut on desktop) 2. Portals do not populate (Work-around: open any portal folder then click on any portal frame [F5 does not work]) While I do have work-arounds for both bugs, the problems should be fixed at some later time.
Yes, I had changed the right-click menu and, yes, your solution worked but: Now it's a matter of deciding, which is the bigger PITA: Do I want the right-click menu I prefer, or do I want easy access to the Fences configuration? I decided, for now, creating a desktop shortcut for the Fences configuration is an acceptable work-around. Hopefully your gurus will actually fix this bug sometime in the future. Resolving the "Portal icons not showing" problem is more important to me: Th
@basj Thanks for the quick response! While I normally do not install Beta versions, this time around, I followed your advice and installed the version of Fences you linked. Even though the thread is entitled “<a title="Fences 4.10.06 Release Feedback Thread" href="https://

You are correct: The problem is the same with or without a second monitor. Fences starts before the network is available and thus can't display the contents of any portal that points to a network location. So "somehow" I need to speed up the start of the network or slow down the start of fences.
@basj Did you, by any chance, find an answer to the question I asked in December? (" <
Thanks for the quick reply basj! (I am trying to hide certain fences on "some" desktop pages by placing a fence of the same colour as the desktop over top of an existing fence. Fences only gives me the option to show a given fence either on a single desktop page or on ALL desktop pages. I have to find some sort of work-around to show a fence only on "some" desktop pages.)
Is there any news on this subject? (I would like the ability to specify fence colour by RGB value as well.)
@basj The article you linked is one of those “Let’s throw EVERYTHING at the wall and see what sticks” articles. Fortunately, the specific suggestion you linked will actually work. In fa
I have a number of portals to various network folders on my desktop. This arrangement works as expected on a Windows 10 machine and on a Windows 11 machine, both of which only have a single monitor. On a second Windows 11 machine with two monitors, after boot, the Portals are "empty" i.e. they show no icons. If I double-click the desktop (hide the non-existent icons) and then double-click the desktop a second time, the portals will be populated and properly show the icons for the contents of
@justinshepherd1: In my post I said: " I still have to use ExplorerPatcher to get this functionality".
Like the OP, I miss the option of adding custom toolbars to my taskbar. AzDude, in November 2021, suggested, Taskbar issues might be addressed in the "next version of Start11 1.1". Well, here we are, more than a year later with 1.3.6 being the current version of Start11 but I still don't see a way to add custom toolbars and I still have to use ExplorerPatcher to get this functionality. <span style="backgroun

Update: I only had this problem on Windows 11 - On Windows 10 the update to the latest version of fences worked fine and Fences is working as expected. Update2: On Windows 11, I uninstalled and then re-installed the latest the latest version of Fences and it is now working as it should i.e. Fences / Portals can be moved as before.
I just upgraded to the version the "About" function calls version 4.0.7.2 but which has a file version of 4.7.2.0 (somebody goofed here!). The Fences / Portals can no longer be moved. The View option, referred to by AzDude shows that Fences is NOT locked.
I would like to second the call for a "Sticky Notes" type of application within Fences (Replies #94, #95) I use multiple Fences Desktop "Pages" but "regular" Sticky programs (I use Zhorn Stickies) do not know how to handle those. The result is, that a "regular" sticky will be displayed on ALL pages (Similar to the "View ==> "Show this Fence on all Pages" option). This can be VERY annoying as a given sticky may only relate to one single specific desktop page. Similar to abov
