[quote who="rothdave1" reply="9" id="2484961"] Quoting WarDad, reply 8 I just have a 2GHz dual core Athalon, 4G DDR, recently upgraded my video card to 58xx? I'm running 1600 x 1200. with some graphics textures turned down. I don't blank trade ships. Anyway, large games get sluggish when I release a lot of scouts to explore. This leads me to believe the bottle neck is AI pathing, Fog-of-war updating, and auto battle resolution. This

OK, I will be buying one soon. The price should drop, after tax refund season, after NiVida relaeases new cards. So lets see now, 5870, Windows 7 (for DX11) , 4G more Ram (for W7), larger monitor (to enjoy it all). That's about $1100 dollars.

Just got home... and fixed it in the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel. Just how many audio control panels are there??? Master Volume, Realtek, and now this.

psychoak: I can't find a setting for it in the Radion Catalyst control panel. It's not important enough to do the driver thing. I think I will buy a bigger PC Monitor:) A TV might have more frames in it's video processing pipeline, creating more latency (16.6ms delay per frame). It could be deadly in some games. myfist0: Your suggestions would not be 1920x1080 resolution.

Some lag issues are not fps related. Some TVs & LCDs have a processing pipeline that can delay the display by many frames. A 60hz frame is 16.666ms. That 120Hz/240Hz HDMI TV will definitely have a pipeline delay of 2 or more frames. A PC monitor would likley have the lowest delay. My friends big rig home theater lagged the other TVs by several seconds. We would rush in from the patio to get a good look at the NASCAR crashes. Some home thearter rigs allow the audio to be

No, I want stereo from the PC all of the time. Using HDMI directs SoSE audio to the TV. I don't want to listen to the TVs crappy speakers.

I just started palying around with an 1080p HDMI TV. Desktop audio comes out the PC jacks :) SoSE audio comes out of the TV (terrible speakers) :( how do I get it the PC jacks on all the time? I have an MSI mother board, on board RealTek audio, and HD 4850 GPU

I wondering how that FPS vs Refresh rate fleshed out. Was someone impling the vertical sync can be dynamicly changed by the video card? If the monitor is locked at 60Hz refresh, then it can only do 60fps. What gives here? BTW: HDMI 120Hz and 240Hz TVs are just fancy footwork. HDMI link is 60Hz and they use interpolation math to create the extra frames inbetween. I heard it's great for sports but some hate it for movies.

"What else do you recomend?? Should I cut my keyboard and monitor cable to 100 mm so it will have better response time? that will give another 1/100 second advantage againts those pros. And maybe i should sit closer to monitor so i will see the action faster again." There are faster gaming keyboards available. They generally are USB. I find it odd though, USB is great for large packets but USB's scheduler can add 5ms delay per packet. USB spec does

I stopped playing diplomacy. It too easy for TEC to win. Just get more credits and pay your semi private army (pirates) to do your bidding. The key for TEC are Hosikos with the disable ability, out numbering the pirates 2-3 to 1. Then your turrets, star base, and bombers can keep pounding them. The disable ability also prolongs the battle long enough for reinforcements to matter. Oh yea I like to have 2 repair bays whose AOE overlap the starbase. 60 repair (40 fro

Hoshikos can disable at frigate/cruisers weapons and reduce it's speed. Hoshiko's down side is it's slowness to turn and line up on a target. 100 of these can pause a full blown Diplomacy Pirate attack, you just need fire power to back them up. "1. Always kill Subverters first" "2. Spread out your fleet." Wide Fleet formation is one key. Cobalt's Sabatoge Reactor ability is not impressive. 3. "Missile Barrage makes short work of Subverters.

"will have to see what the devs are proposing with the update tomorrow" Ryat. Yea, good news. The buffed pirates kick butt. I needed star base and full emergency facilities to repell attacks. Great training for cap ships, if you keep them near a repair bay. Playing a game with everything set to slow. I'm finding uncolonized planets with no defenders near the AIs home worlds. No sense in my colonizing it, what with the credit/resource shortages and devastating

Yea, the AIs must have different "Crack" criteria and thresholds. It might be set at the start of the game. Some possibilities: No CAP ship. No CAP ship and no hope to build one within limits (time?). Can include no Cap Ship factory and lack of resources (including Credits). Note: If the AI can't scrap, then build space becomes a needed resource. No Capital. No Capital and No resources to designate capital within limits. No Planet

My stategy is to avoid diplomacy. Eventually I will start to knock the stuffings out of the AIs and 1 of them will become my friend. Culitivating a friendship is dificult because you might get a mission you can't complete (detroys defenisve structues when there are none). Focus instead on the basic game play. The AI gets a resource bonus to make up for stupidity. you have to compensate for that. 1. REX (Rapid Exspansion) in the early game while avoiding exposed far flung colon

The AI are not giving missions. The love nub cant' be rasied high enough by bribes. 50% -> 60%. In a 6 player game only my neighbor started at 50%, at 60% I couldn't get a trade pact. I had more diplomacy in SoSE and Entrenchment. Now that I have 20 Novalith cannons firing, diplomacy seems dead ;) No body likes me, everybody hates me, I might as well eat worms. :)

Were the two Mazras level 6? Two missle barrages can almost total your carriers quickly. Then add the Javelins cluster bombs area of effect, and boom there goes your fleet. The bombers were just there to add quick capital ship kills, preventing barrage dissruption. Great way to clear out facilities too.
