All I see is my units along the left side and the bad guy on the right side with a huge white area inbetween. When I click on my unit, the cursor becomes an "X" with a tail and further clicking does nothing. How is combat supposed to work???

I had this same problem with C++ 2005. Furthermore, it could not be deleted in Add/Delete programs. In my case, I used the MS Windows Install Clean Up program to delete C++ 2005, then reinstalled and all was OK. You can google Windows Install Clean Up and d/l from MS.
Age 59 here; Hmmmm... guess that makes me a geezer-geezer! Married 37 years, but wife is not a gamer. Retired. Play a couple hours/day when I'm not doing politics on Free Republic. Haven't gotten around to GC2 much yet, but played quite a bit of GC. Never got into quarter drop games. However most of my favorite games are geezer-games: Master of Magic, Master of Orion, Imperialism (1&2), Age of Wonders, Colonization. At few are not: Civ4, Oblivion, GG's World at War. Sl
Let's get back to a basic fact: SP and MP have conflicting game play experience goals: SP- high priority: lots of random and scripted events; low priority: balance MP- the opposite IMHO this means designing a basic game sold two ways. One with the built-in SP mod and another with the built-in mod for MP. Two communities; two forum areas; two games growing further apart over time. StarDock should be expected to maximize their profits.
Guess I'll just play the waiting game...nothing else i can do. You mean other than d/l the game? Are you just trolling for the hell of it? Have you followed the links provided by #11 & #14? If you are really a paying customer, You can and should be playing right now.
Here's what I'd like: * No tech trading * lower tech costs based both on how many civs know it and your level of trade with civs that know it * espionage to steal techs * ability to give techs away
My...... head...... is...... exploding...... <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/SadAngry.gif" bo
Here is a direct quote from (chief dev & CEO) Brad deep in a thread titled "AI isnt very smart.. it Cheats": "In the future, if someone wants a serious response, they should consider better titles. Having some guy come on and declare that the AI isn't smart AND that it cheats is a bit off putting and erroneous." I think this deserves its own thread; words matter. Personally I hope the devs are encouraged by GC2's success and want to continue being devs. <
How about dumping the whole notion of tech trading. I don't believe it's happened much in real world history. I suggest replacing tech trading with: 1. reducing tech cost each time that tech is discovered. 2. give a chance to discover the relevant tech each time a battle is won against that higher tech. 3. espionage. 4. joint research among allies.
Um ... well since it's the same from galciv 1 it basically works like this: Your tax income is say 100bc per turn for the empire. You set spending slider to 100%. This is now spending all of your goverments tax revenue on military, social, and research. Your income might go negative now because of costs coming from upkeeps, tributes, leases etc...(trade can really
imo, ymmv, yadda, yadda, etc... In the real world, who the heck trades techs anyway! I'd like to see techs spread by: 1. lower research costs as more civs know a given tech. 2. espionage. 3. a high level of allies agreeing to joint research. 4. NO outright trading.
Thanks Everyone, After seeing the replies, I updated again. On a hunch, I switched from US-4 to California. It worked fine. Another thing I noticed: Apparently the bad update changed the main menu bottom left version # back to: v1.0 Digital: Bonus Pack my correct version, that does not change between .007 and .008, is: v1.0D-1 Digital: Bonus Pack
The feature described as: "Research Wnd: When listing ships that a tech will unlock, the other techs required will be listed as well." reverts back to pre patch. Re-applying .007 restores it. This is just FYI as I thought .008 was supposed to be the SDC version of the manual .007.
Yes, I alt-tab every 20-40 minutes. Been using the hardware cursor workaround with no problems. XP home; GF 6800GT; Logitech optical wired mouse; 2.4 ghz p4; 1gb mem; vanilla cursor; all drivers/patches current.
First things first: Congratulations to Stardock for a groundbreaking new design feature. Issues surrounding this are my only big upgrade requests with this game. In order of importance to me: 1. the thread title problem of not knowing what the other X techs are to complete a design. 2. the inability to build off the core designs. 3. the inabilty to s
Same problem: using default win mouse cursor; NV GF 6800GT; Logitech wired optical mouse.
on p. 31: references to Millions of people should be Billions of people (or is the Colony Mgr. Scr. wrong when it shows x.xx b people??)
No tactical.
Yeah! I'm with alien Suralle on this one! The arguements that either multiplayer and/or tactical combat would distract from the most robust single player experience are very rational. That resources are limited at many levels is reality. That the vast majority of potential buyers are solo strategic players is reality. That many games have been ruined by devs capitulating to small but strident communities is reality. If you fall into one of
fwiw: I had exactly the same problem yesterday. Following the advice above at #2 it activated flawlessly. (who knew right clicking on the apps was active?!)
The GC2.xml dl appears to work, then the dl goes into waiting 3,2,1 over and over. Tried both servers; also dl'd new SDC... exactly same problem. fyi: fixed by uninstalling the beta; dl successfully completed.
My failure: The GC2.xml dl appears to work, then the dl goes into waiting 3,2,1 over and over. Tried both servers; also dl'd new SDC... exactly same problem.
I am getting so tired of buying games and having features and content stripped out of what it could have been because the developers wanted to cater to the 'l33t" 1% that play these games multiplayer. .... GalCiv is ours. Leave it alone. Exactly! Games marketed by other online publishers have in the past,
does it say Install or Download? Each button, for all not d/l'd games, says Download. Each Download button is linked to the appropriate purchase page. Stardock version: 2.09c.342 build: 94 Edit: Found the problem... I clicked View/Show Hide Applications/Reset. The old games now correctly show Install.<br
