The Hide/View option doesn't address my issue. It's not just a matter of the icons disappearing. In my case, the desktop reverts to the original Windows logo instead of my custom image, displaying perhaps a dozen of my 77 icons. I posted this in the Microsoft forums, but their only suggestion was that it could be related to Fences.
