What is the restore process if Windows needs to restore from a clean install? Where are the icons details saved and do I need to save them on a second drive?

I have spent a great deal of effort creating my desktop with fences and icons with links and short cuts. If I have to re-cover Window OS is there a way I can save my Fences Desktop including the configuration of the icons? Obviously I can use the snipping tool to save the "picture" overall configuration and the "target" of each path to re-construct but hoping you have a more efficient procedure for recovery. I love Fences. Henry
