I like [10], the migrating pirates. I've also got a few new ideas. - Perhaps add elite commanders for your capital ships. Perhaps make them trainable, for they would die if the capital ships are destroyed. Such commanders could also have an AOE to ships in the neighbourhood of the capital ship. - Perhaps add a certain type of disaster, but with a twist. For example, a plague that spreads slowly between your planets and is carried by ships that travel

"as if vasari starbases weren't powerful enough..." Yes they're already the best starbases around but imho it would be funny, isn't that reason enough... "WTF? Trade ports are the best income in the entire game. Yes, even after the DLC." In the early game they are too expensive for multiplayer games. I kept that in mind. When playing against the AI it doesn't matter much. Perhaps a lower-tech tradeport could be useful? One that is cheaper but gives le
Research for the late game. After about 3 hours playing most if not all research is done. Games against AI on large maps can last a lot longer than that... unfortunately there's not much evolution anymore, you're stuck with the exact same units you've got and nothing changes. Also it doesn't really matter if you have the largest economy since you have nothing you can spend all your credits on ... all research is done and ships are as "cheap" as ever. S
What kind of things would you like in a DLC? Just more planets? I don't really want those ... I would like extra research options in the early game (first 30 minutes) and the very late game (after 2 or 3 hours). Dunno which. In the very late game, perhaps make nearly unlimited research possible ... like "advanced ship upgrades" level 1 to 99 ... to give you something to waste your money on in very long games against the AI. Also increase ship cost if you go for such&n
Why don't you use fleets? I always use them, mainly to distinguish carriers from other units so I always have two fleets. Sometimes I put torpedo cruisers in a third fleet. For the rest it doesn't really matter does it? If you select a lot of units and give orders, they'll also behave like a fleet (positioning). And you can make a fleet behave like free units if you set their attack modes to max. range. But then again I only play against
You don't have to place the scouts on top of the mines; if you put your cursor over their "mine" icon, then you can see their range in which they can reveal mines. When you attack with a fleet, send in a few scouts and place them near pockets of mines. Your attack ships do the rest. The range isn't that great though, you'll have to advance them one or two times if there's a lot of mines. It's not that much work and it gives you something to do while your fle
In the fleet menu (select a fleet, then look at the triangles icons on the bottom of the screen): - You can set the fleet formation to "tight" so that your ships stay together. It's not optimal but sometimes comes in handy. - You can set the attack range to "hold position" or "local area" if you don't want you ships to spread out all over the map. Also, put your carriers in a separate fleet. Sometimes you need to make more separate fleets. For exam
I suppose you're playing against hard AI? 1. Build turrets and repair bays to defend your worlds. 2. When you've got 5 planets or more, invest in starbases (and keep expanding if possible). That will make the AI stop attacking you all the time with small fleets. 3. After this, go on the offensive. 4. (In case you've unlocked teams) Ally one of the other AI's, choose the neighbouring AI that has best attitude with you at the time.
I've some suggestions for the TEC Loyalists or the game in general. I don't want to be a troll and mind you, they are just ideas! You can ignore them if you want! The game is nice enough to play as it is and the developers will probably not even read this kind of stuff. But maybe some of the ideas make sense? Perhaps the forum moderator could make a suggestions-forum for this kind of stuff. - Trade ports. I think they're essential, but they don't
I've noticed on several occasions, after running away from a starbase, that a while later its missiles suddenly arrive into my gravity well. They've travelled all the way from the other gravity well and hit my ships. They did no damage. It was a Vasari starbase, the missiles were blue ones. On one occasion I also noticed missiles entering my gravity well, then traveling across it and then flying away into space.
Sure... and the multiplayer community is partly responsible for requesting insane things like 2 bombers per carrier ... great job, community! Great job at being happy with a fucking boring first half our where you can't do any fucking upgrades because it'll mean you've lost. Great job at being so fucking happy with it. Great job as pestering people who try to suggest that defenses could be just a teeny weeny little bit better and squashing them to pulp. Great job, really
I suppose it's a retorical question but I'll answer anyway: because the carriers are nothing but mobile factories, while the bombers do the actual fighting. Therefore bombers act more like combat units than the carriers themselves. Therefore, in terms of resources, it would make sense if bombers cost resources just like the units they engage. That would me a more "honest" exchange of risk of investment. At the moment, in order to destroy the carriers, units will have to l
No I couldn't. I didn't have that many planets and my shipyards were about 4 jumps away. And what I had, I needed for the other battle. And my starbases had no construction bays, because I used the upgrades for armor, weapons and trade. And the dwarf planet had no slots left (broadcast centers...). You know... just that extra upgrade for a construction bay, or for an extra fighter bay, could've made it easier. It would've cost a lot (as much as a few frigates) I suppose, so it
I was loosing and couldn't spare any ships. On that frontier world, I only had 2 starbases and maybe 2 hangar bays and some repair bays, that wasn't enough. It was a dwarf planet, I couldn't place many additionaly defenses. I lost over 30K of investment there against a tiny fleet ... which is annoying, no matter how you put it. And you're saying that I should've put an additional 5 carriers there, which would've cost me another 5K and about 50 fleet supp
I really don't understand why you are so upset about this. It will only make it a little more useful against really small fleets, it has little impact on larger battles. It's almost like a bunch of Al-Queda terrorists who manage to destroy the Pentagon with almost no effort... oh wait, that nearly happened in reality :) I concede.
I know and they can't be. But the AI sends lots of small fleets everywhere with those torpedo ships and that's just horrible. Starbases shouldn't fall victim to small fleets, period. Large fleets? Fine! Small fleets? Terrible. The only thing you can do with additonal upgrades, is to upgrade a few hangar bays to build bombers. That does not influence any big battle. It only serves to destroy a small fleet, nothing more. Late game, when the AI has 2000 s
I didn't ask for a mod or to become a modder (although I have the expertise to become one I don't want to) ... I would like to play online against AI's with better starbases, right now they're just not good enough to handle even a small group of torpedo ships. Alternative, if I could scuttle my merchant bays and upgrade with fighter bays that would also work, but what's the point of that ... it's easier imo to just increase the number o
Could you remove the upgrade cap (8 upgrades max) on starbases please?
I dunno, I played Star Craft and Supreme Commander a lot and those games also had rushes and nasty tricks like quick-building a nuclear launcher ... maybe I'll try again someday after I've played more games against hard AI.
For air supremacy you need to have about 3 fighters for every 2 enemy bombers. From your post I'd think it was the other way around. Also send an Akkan with your flak units, since then the flak units will have a little more range and chance to hit.
He was focusing on a fight, then it's easy to overlook. Anyway, perhaps you could explain why it's worthwile to learn multiplayer tactics and play online multiplayer games against Vasari players - assuming I prefer TEC because I really like the twin starbases, trade income and even the Ankylon and don't really want to play Vasari myself. So what's the fun early game? Is it about the thrill of rushing or fending off rushes? Seeing who's the better one b
People, that person has a point. If you don't see the starbase in time, then you have no time to destroy it and even if you do, you'll lose half your fleet. Basically, it's game over already and you have hardly even started the game. And why should you even consider joining games with Vasari players who'll just repeat that tactic again and again? I don't, I think it's a complete waste of my time to play games that way and the so-called "experienced
If you ally with an AI that is next to you then you can make pacts with the AI, which will give you several boosts. The enemy AIs that are allied will have such benefits... why shouldn't you have them? For example I think the trade and armor pacts of the TEC are really good. Such games are more entertaining than 1v1 games imo. 2v2 games won't be harder I think, AIs are really good at keeping each other busy while you fight the other AI.
If I would attack a fortified world, I would use a group of Ogrov cruisers. I would also add a few scouts to detect and destabilize the mines. Also I would keep my fleet close to the Titan and use its max group shield (with other abilities disabled if antimatter runs low). And lots of flak units against bombers. And an Akkan for increased range. And a few Kols because they last long and can soak up a lot of enemy fire. For those I'd disable the Gauss gun, so that they
I think the militia are just strange. If there are so many ships defending a planet, why is that planet not colonized? I think there is no immersion at all, it looks to me like some artificial construct to give you some extra fights in the beginning to make colonizing less boring. I kinda appreciate that though, it indeed makes it nicer to colonize with a fleet. But immersion??? Not really.
