I will try it soon, and I thank you for posting it. Would you mind telling me if you are just running Start8, or are you running a suite of Stardock's of some kind (or multiple Stardock programs)?
Neil, I am sorry I did not see your last post sooner. All great information and I really appreciate it. I am not completely discounting anything suggested, but I will say the problem only occurs for me when Start8 v1.30 is installed. I uninstall it and the problem goes away. Reinstall Start8 v1.30 and the problem comes back. I have uninstalled and reinstalled v1.30 a total of seven times now. If I install Start8 v1.20 (or 1.2 something, I am not looking at it),
mtg11, It seems like they aren't interested in fixing this. Neil helped me as much as he can, but support at Stardock in general does not seem to view this problem as important enough to look into and fix quickly.
Pressing the shift key while clicking shutdown has solved the problem with Start8 cold reboots. However, interestingly, using the shift key caused a loss of Norton Internet Security updates for the past 24 hours. Interesting. Neil, I just had a thought. What anti-virus, if any, are you using? I use Norton Internet Security, which was just updated for Windows 8.1 as well I believe. I wonder if Norton and Start8 are now getting into some kind of weird pissing contest at shutdown (ie: hibernation) which causes the system to throw the incomplete shutdown flag? Again, all these programs worked together fine before the Windows 8.1 upgr
Hi Neil! Thanks for getting back! I was already running Start8 v1.30.1 when I upgraded to Windows 8.1. Also, I have uninstalled and reinstalled that version several times now as well. I do clean uninstalls using Revo Uninstaller Pro, so all the files are removed. Thanks for reminding me about the shift key
Hey Neil....do you have any further thoughts regarding my last post? I could really use some help here. Since very few regular PC users shut down their PCs, and since even fewer have probably upgraded to Windows 8.1 so far, you may not see a lot of people reporting the problem. I assure you it is real and it is related to Start8 though, so please don't forget about me. :) Stardock Support has not
I will say, Wizard1956, that I am 46 years old, and thus not part of the " I am entitled " generation. Therefore, I do not "EXPECT" much of anything from anyone any more. I was merely making an inquiry about OD, because I am having several minor software SNAFUs from various programs all at once since updating to Windows 8.1. No, that is not unexpected, but I don't have the time (or mental capacity)
johnnyzero, thanks for the article link. I will take a look at it. I don't wan't to disable hybrid shutdown, because I really like it. Also, it gives me no problem as long as Start8 is not installed. However, I want to learn all I can about this, so I appreciate you steering me in this direction.

I reinstalled Start8, rebooted, and then once PC was back up completely, I used the Charms bar to shut down completely (or as completely as I have now learned Windows 8/8.1 do). Hmmmm...interesting. You may have a point about something SNAFUing during shutdown instead of start-up. Guess I should check the logs. But, as far as shutting down without Start8....No I used it every time, and I mean every time. I loves my Start8.
Oh, and I also use Fences, but have zero problems with that.
Hi Neil! Both your questions were answered in my first post. Windows loading screen (perhaps I was not clear here) and problem cured once Start8 removed.
