I can confirm that the beta 0.57 worked on the final build without any problems for me, just downloaded 0.99 and no problems so far.
I just bought the $3.99 upgrade without thinking, I don't even have Windows 10 installed yet. Eventually I'll have Windows 10 and I'll need Start10. I have used Start8 so much that I didn't care if I had to pay for the upgrade, just support their hard work, they are always updating the software. If you don't want to pay for it don't complain use another alternative then.
