I never was able to activate the trial version. I was able to activate using a purchased key. I would say there is some issue with code, not firewall. Doesn't the error code ("-205") tell you anything?

This is a problem for me too. The message shown when I install Start10 and try to run it is: Unable to activate Start10. Please try again or contact support. (Error code: -205) "contact support" is a link which only leads to the generic Stardock support page. I have tried up to 20 times but it won't proceed.
