I have had the same thing -and I haven't updated s/w, so I don't know what changed on my system to cause this. I also have the pay version But, here's the good news. All I had to do was create a new fence. As soon as it was created, all my old fences and shortcuts came back. The problem returned a few days later, but the same solution worked. So not a great workaround, but at least it gets you back to your desktop
