This would be great as an option for groups of windows of the same app - like explorer... If this were standard for all windows we would have too much space taken even where tabs are not needed at all.

Agree, would also like this as an option - not fixed standard, but as an option, as in different scenarios it may be preferrable to not group the apps on the taskbar.
I agree that would be great! Also: open - and also close! - that group with one click. Would feel natural to habe common Window-Icons for a group...
Whatever caused it, I will not be able to find out anymore. I had a HDD-Crash, seems the HDD had a faulty controller, could retrieve data with special tool but have now a newly installed system on SSD... Everything works so far, Start8 and ModernMix nicely, some customizing-experiments I will not repeat.

Right now I can't be sure that it is not due to a filesystem-problem I am having and only a time-conincidence... After (hopefully) recovering my Win8 -machiene I'll check again and come back to you...
There is a big problem with Mixxx (1.11.0 beta2, DJing-Software from mixxx.org) and ModernMix (1.05, maybe earlier): The GUI of Mixxx becomes unusable, as long as ModernMix is running! Some way MM seems to interfere with the Mixxx GUI and/or skinning system.
edit: (issue solved) Using Mixxx desktop and Sound Pad App windowed simultaniously works with beta 1.05
reduced cm items to minimum, no change...
edit: you refer to the context menu? will try to reduce these and see if it helps... When opening a cm with all those entries on the "all programs" list, there is no problem, it really only happens with the pinned and recent items is there a way to edit the pinned items somewhere else as a workaround until this is solved?
Now I went back to a system restore point before I installed 8Gadget and Startisback - still no change. This may have been "lingering around" for a while because I might not have tried to remove any pinned programs for some time...
I had 8GadgetPack 5 installed, that's the only thing I could think of; uninstalled that now, rebooted, reinstalled Start8 (1.12) - rebooted - still the same - see vid This happens every time when opening the context menu and hovering over it, or clicking sth. left or right click... The next operation that involves explorer will then let explorer crash / restart. Everything else keeps working. </p
This I observed with current stable version 1.12 as well as beta 1.14, Win 8 Pro x64, ModernMix is installed, also tried 1.0 and 1.05b Only in the shortcuts-list and pinned apps on right click the context menu appears and freezes, start8 completely unresponsive, until explorer restart. opening any explorer window then causes explorer restart... This makes it impossible e.g. to unpin apps from Start8-Menu... Any idea, what to do?
What I like about MSE / Defender is that it runs silently in the background but does it's job.... Most alternative solutions seem to want to emphasize their "protectiveness" by throwing all kinds of information in your way all the time...
I would like to add here that Avast! seems to cause severe complete freezes in my installation with the need to hard reset, so I have not found a smoothly working free alternative to Defender yet. So I switched back to Defender and with the new beta of Start8 the Folder open "near instantly" like they are supposed to :)
Done some tests with various free Antivirus-Solutions. Some did not install at all even though they claim to be be compatible with Win 8 (Panda Cloud); Avira claims to be not compatible yet, AVG slowed everything down to the level of the system being unusable. I have Avast! Free installed now and Defender disabled... I wanted to try if that also fixes various freezes with Windows Explorer - and it seems it does help. Start8-Menues are faster, though large ones still have some no
Great that this issue is being addressed in Start8! :) I have been using different free AV-Programs (and Firewalls) over the years like Antivir ect. but since Win7 I switched to MSE and Defender which is in Win8 now included as Defender because it does have advantages to have sth. like this deeply included in the OS. The best primary AV is the brain anyway ;) But having sth. supplement that by means of software helps none the less...
My start menu folders are not THAT big but with the bigger ones there is also a very big delay... Also using Defender of course - that is kind of standard with Win 8, isn't it? ;) It has gotten better with 1.03 as oposed to 1.01, but still not really satisfying...
