context-menu freezes and causes explorer-restart

Do you have anything else installed that might extend explorer?

I do not believe we have ever had a similar report before with Start8, though installing DeskScapes 3 on Windows 8 could cause explorer crashes.

I had 8GadgetPack 5 installed, that's the only thing I could think of; uninstalled that now, rebooted, reinstalled Start8 (1.12) - rebooted - still the same - see vid

This happens every time when opening the context menu and hovering over it, or clicking sth. left or right click... The next operation that involves explorer will then let explorer crash / restart. Everything else keeps working. 

Unless the GadgetPack leaves sth behind after uninstall i have no idea what else could be causing that. 

Wait: I installed some other Start-Replacement (Startisback 2) for comparison that opened instantly over Start8 after installation. That made my pinned items in Start8 disappear, even after uninstalling Startisback. Maybe that caused some lasting error.

Next will try uninstalling Start8 completely and reinstalling it instead of just installing over the existing installation.

edit: that did not help, either, still the same...  

Now I went back to a system restore point before I installed 8Gadget and Startisback - still no change. This may have been "lingering around" for a while because I might not have tried to remove any pinned programs for some time... 

You seem to have quite a few custom entries in that menu which may be a factor.

edit: you refer to the context menu? will try to reduce these and see if it helps...  

When opening a cm with all those entries on the "all programs" list, there is no problem, it really only happens with the pinned and recent items

is there a way to edit the pinned items somewhere else as a workaround until this is solved? 

reduced cm items to minimum, no change...

Whatever caused it, I will not be able to find out anymore I had a HDD-Crash, seems the HDD had a faulty controller, could retrieve data with special tool but have now a newly installed system on SSD... Everything works so far, Start8 and ModernMix nicely, some customizing-experiments I will not repeat.
