I never thought tactical warfare was one of the series talking points. Its ATT v DEF thats it. What it has lacked there it abounds in micromanaging city resources, technology progression and diplomacy. In Civ 4 I always strive ftw via Space Race.
If I had to guess, I'd say the thinking here is the box that shipped out last month said "features: 16 player multiplayer" not "features: balanced game".
all that's left to Stardock is Brad and a bunch of robots doing his bidding. =P
That eerily sounds like the functional requirements doc for Elemental
I think given the back and forth between the dissatisfied and the fans ... The PC UK Gamer "don't buy our games" and subsequent retraction ... Brad saying on page 4 of this thread ... game isn't ready, he was too close to realize the work it needed ... and the resultant financial impact costing 20 Stardock Employees their jobs that releasing games that aren't ready to the % of fans patient enough to put up with unreadiness for 2+ years is no
IMO Brad should stop talking. A simple "I farged up" would do. No need for 4 paragraphs of driveling which 2.5 paragraphs of can be contradicted 2 days later. This cycle is not making for good Stardock PR (or Stardock bottom line) ;-)
Brad said Elemental was ready to ship/play at launch w the PC UK Gamer fiasco. A week later Brad said it wasn't ready, but was clouded by how close he was to the game. That the bad reviews were warranted because EWoM wasn't a good game (yet). In that same post he said Stardock will be working on Elemental for years to come. Literally. Let me be specific: Stardock will NOT release a new game next year. It'll all be El
Show of hands. Who got a refund on their pre-order? Reason I want to know is that's practically the only way that revenue projections could be so bad as to lead to layoffs. All of the diehard fanboys are keeping their copies, right? It just doesn't add up. Poor revenue can only mean one thing. Massive returns.
ME! I got a refund after 1.06. Game was stable, just mechanics are horridly off and more than a patch
I thought Brad said Elemental wasn't rushed out, that Stardock didn't rely on game sales and that even if they didn't sell another copy that the team would work on improving Elemental for the next 2 years. Guess Brad led a lot of you astray ... as my first dealings with Stardock was the game Elemental, I really do not understand where all the loyalty comes from. He seems like a real tool
There also seems to be a "Let's stick it to Stardock" attitude making the rounds, which is unfortunate since some of these reviewers seem determined not to give Elemental a fair shake.
Whatever .. Gamespot and Shacknews and surely others are holding off reviews for further patches. That is cutting Stardock more of a break than recent history anyone has done for ANY size publisher.
Something about "thoroughly enjoying the game as it is" yet it still "needing significant work" (your exact words used in the same sentence) aren't typically synonymous, so I guess you are correct that I am making a bad assumption there [e digicons]o_O[/e] As for the defense of the 54% from the polls, I sure hope none of my friends would recommend something that still needed "significant work" lulz
That is good to hear. I requested my refund this morning and hope SD will follow through with a prompt refund (so I can put it towards CIV 5 SE!)
@Jharii Yeah I read a bunch of forums regularly. Are you paying attention? 54% of people who visit these forums took a poll and said either they love it or like it and would recommend it. That is "most people" I am referring to. Had that poll been hosted somewhere a little less fan friendly, I assure you the numbers (ya know, out there in the real world) would not be nearly as positive.
it's ok to do exactly the same just with updated graphics and improved AI. There is absolutely no need to redesign any part of the game. Complicated game dynamics usually do not make for a rewarding lengthy relations
Maybe he was on a deadline and couldn't play it. Gamespot, Shacknews and others are holding back citing technical difficulties with the game.
2. Gamers shall have the right to demand that games be released in a finished state. Released means the version that was pressed on the disk, right? I hardly think even the most pious fanboy would have called 1.0 a finished state. Why are so many review sites holding back there reviews if this is finished? Why does the support forum have 1100 threads if this is finished? Why does metacritic have this at 44/100 if this game is so satisfactory? Can
