Is it possible to formally declare war on another species, and if you don't and just start attacking them does that incur diplomatic penalties? I can't seem to find anywhere in the interface to declare war. I can negotiate for other species to declare war on each other, but there doesn't seem to be a way for me to invite myself to the party. Do I just jump in and start shooting the place up?

Heh, you're selling something on the forums and yet it's not spam ... the day is starting right. Thanks for the info! :)
They have a couple of weaknesses you can exploit (if by "exploit" you take my meaning as "barely survive"). First they don't adequately protect their non-combat shipping. Knowing this I'd say is about the only thing that will keep you alive. Second they don't organize their warships into fleets, so they are vulnerable to an alpha strike -- but if you nail them too many times with one weapon type they'll build defenses, and their tech is so off-the-scale th
The "Expander", a cargo hull filled with engines and support, turned out to be very useful. In addition to constructors and colony ships I was even using them to get my trade routes laid down faster in the Dreadlord scenario game with the huge map. Thanks, y'all! Cargo hulls also dramatically reduces the tech requirements for a viable anti-Dreadlord interceptor (speed 11 or better, attack of 1 or better, whatever support is needed, and maybe a scanner -- or the Eye, what
Hey, that's a good question! I'd add to that what's the cheapest upgrade path from GC2:DL to the remainder of the expansions? And how many would that be?
I'm playing Dreadlords campaign scenario "Salvation" where you have to save Earth by conquering a planet with an artifact on it. A Dreadlord Frigate showed up near Earth, destroyed my starbase, destroyed a beam interceptor, then began a refit. It took some damage during the attack on the beam fighter, so when it began refitting its hitpoints went negative. I jumped the Dreadlord ship with another nearby fighter to take advantage of the brief window of vuln
Re: population, I do build a colony ship for the purpose of equalizing population by shuffling colonists around (when I'm done shuffling it upgrades to a transport pretty cheaply) but in the time it takes to actually move people you're spilling red ink for a pretty good chunk of time. I've relied on the AI's for extra cash by tech trading, but they also run out of money. It might be a small map thing. On a small map you either get yours or you get left behin
I have an "extra" colony ship left over from the gold rush phase of my current game. I parked it in orbit around my least-populous planet and that transferred the colonists to it. Good so far. Now I want to reconfigure the colony ship into a constructor. To do that it looks like I have to launch the colony ship -- but I'm not allowed to launch it if there are no colonists on board. Does a colonist have to "take one for the team" and sac
Strangely enough when I started the next scenario of the campaign I started getting movies. It may also be that when you change the settings to always show movies that doesn't take effect until the next session.
I have created fleets and used them but I still don't get a movie. The only thing that seems to decide it is who initiates the attack. Even if it's just a duel between two ships I get to watch the movie if I'm the one being attacked. If I attack either ships orbiting a planet or a ship in space with a fleet I don't get a movie. I haven't had the opportunity yet to attack a fleet. Does a movie get generated every
How do I get my movie when I attack enemy ships during my turn? When enemy ships attack me I get a movie. So far I can't find any way to either get a movie when I attack nor does there seem to be anyplace on the interface to get a replay of the movie. I'm sure it's possible, I'm just missing how do to it. No doubt after a few games I'll turn the movies off, but for now I want to see everything play out.
