My approach has changed bt i am now now exhausted trying to modify one file since past 8 months. I tried everything And i dont want to go with regedit trick . (By that i hae already published logon screen changer http://download.cnet.com/Logon-Screen-Changer/3000-2105_4-75218509.html?tag=mncol;lst ). I want to find an alternative method like writing own gina or micros
Dude you arnt getting me . I have seen this registry trick around 95 times . I need to modify imageres.dll or write my own credential provider (most toughest way )
If it dosnt alters the file then there is no way to change login screen . How does it changes Oh i see now you may have wriiten your own credential provider right ?
@fuzzy logic i am sorry but i need to tell the truth . And yes now i dont consider Logon studio to be bad because it is the only way to change login screen with custom large file size images because windows has a restriction of files to less than 256 kb.
Important announcement LogonTweaker vista is sadly under development. One think thta strikes my mind again and again iss that there might be some other way to overide windows resource protection other than taking an ownership of imageres.dll . It is also used by explorer.exe process.
It's my right to inform people here that's why we have forums. Bootskin vista takes ownership of the file in system32 solfer and modifies it and modifies it's 2 image reosources for different image resolutions. But if you want to change boot screen in all vista cersion with softwre there is no other way out. sadly . But i will be back soon after my researches and i promise i will create a freeware which will do this task easily.
bootskin xp is old issue but i dont recommend anyone to download bootskin vista because it modifes system file in system32
Go download Logontweaker xp or logon editor for xp
Logonstudio dosnt provide a clean support that's why i cant say it is the best.

I forgot to tell that when i got the error i even killed explorer.exe which was using the file still error . I am getting crazy
I have developed Logon Tweaker Vista . But sometimes i experience problems while changing login screen Logon Tweaker first takes ownership of all files . Then it copies the original dll from system32 to program data folder and updates it's resources and saves it there. Then the imageres.dll in system32 is moved to desktop and the file which we modified at program data folder is copied at it's location But sometimes it failes Access is denied error 5 when i try to repla
but where is imageres.dll file located which logonstudio edits
yup directskin but i cant use it as it is not free .
I think the product was nit skinstudio it was someother name for develoeprs for skinning their forms
I recently used skinstudio . I have vb.net 2008 professional edition. And please note that i only want free version for my software Can someone explain me tutorial how to change skin. I saw examples of vb.net compiled them got errors

In vista you can change boot logo . you need 2 bmp files (24 bit) of resolution 640 by 480 and 1024 by 768 and replace the resources in winload.exe.mui under no gui boot option Thats' what bootskin vista does . But for a normal person it is not safe.
