Permanently running DRM on my computer hardly qualifies as a "purpose."
Maybe you should explore it a little more...
Quoting KickACrip, reply 11 I just don't get the "it's built around Steam, so it's Steams problem" argument. You bought a game from a company that considers the PC platform bottom tier - put the blame where it belongs. Perhaps you missed the part where Steamworks is involved. It's part of the game. It's built in, which means its not just built around steam... it is Steam. They get the part of the blame. Valve

Shouldn't EVERY game be having these issues then, if the problem is Steam? It was known before release that MW2 wasn't going to be PC friendly...but Steam gets the blame? I haven't played them in awhile, but I played BFBC2 & L4D without any problems (once the first day server crashes got fixed, which again I don't believe was due to Steam). I just don't get the "it's built around Steam, so it's Steams problem" argument.
Funny how Steam gets blamed when the reason for his problems are other issues.

where did you get it from for $10?
My wife and I are both nursing students, we recently each bought an Ipod Touch after seeing the number of other nurses/students/medical professionals with them or similar devices. The amount of medical applications (professional drug reference book, disease references, lab values etc) on it is amazing. It's really nice not having to carry around bulky books when the exact same thing (with a nice search feature!) is in your pocket, ready to go in an instant! </p

I've made it clear I not only support but am glad that Civ5 players who want steam have that opportunity.
Second, I'll answer anyways -- a main reason is that steam collects information. Their privacy policy is too long to quote here (see http://www.valvesoftware.com/privacy.html) but here's a part: "By using Valve's online sites and products, users agree that Valve may collect aggregate information, individual information, and personally identifiable information, as defined below.
Quoting KickACrip, reply 363 Wait - so you're saying people have copy/pasted the content from BTS and put it directly into the original? If so, that's pretty nice of Firaxis, I figured copying the leaderheads and all the art styles and code that went into released content would of been copyrighted. Again, you don't understand how mods work for Civ do you? No need to directly copy and paste from BTS at all.
Quoting KickACrip, reply 353 Again - mods based on direct content taken from a paid DLC release would probably be between the company that made it (ie, not valve/steam), and the modders. I mean, isn't this already common place? Or do people normally take direct content from a paid releases, and release it as is free to the community? Pretty obvious that you don't know much about the Civ modding community.&n

I'm just curious, I've never really used Direct 2 Drive, but I vaguely remember hearing that there's a one year time period on game downloads...is that true? I could be confusing it with a different company, or maybe I'm confused as it's just something I heard on some forum. Anyway, is that, or was it ever, true? Edit - It seems to be the EA Store, atleast according to the wiki on it. I've never used them, so I don't know.. http:/
I think the only weird thing is, is that you're going around telling everyone what type of people you're attracted to. So what - you meet a new friend "How are you doing? Oh, guess what type of women I'm attracted to?" Anyway, this reminds me of the scene in "I Think I Love My Wife" where Chris Rock's character talks about liking Asian porn, or something like that.
Quoting DeCypher00, reply 124I find all this fear of Steam becoming a big evil empire kind of funny. It's already a big empire. Impulse is the Linux to Steam's Windows. Being afraid that Valve will control all publishing is silly. You know what happens when they overstep boundaries? Consumers and developers can easily move to consoles. It's already happening for the most part. Valve is not stupid enough to destroy the PC
