I'm also experiencing the problem with the Nvidia tab in the display properties whenever I click on it there is a message about an error in desk.cpl. Deleting the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\Display\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers\NVIDIA CPL Extension] from the registry simply lets the Nvidia tab disappear from the display properties.
