I clicked on one of my freighters, and then, instead of clicking on a planet to send it to, I accidentally right clicked on one of my starbases. The freighter took off for the starbase, of course, but the problem is that I was unable to change the course until it arrived at the starbase. I tried clicking on it and then selecting a new destination 3 times while it was making its way to the starbase, but it would not be deterred from its original course.

I also noticed that some of the graphs showed ever increasing values right up to the current time, and then took a steep plunge to zero, like there was one extra data point of 0 being included in graph that shouldn't have been there.
I agree, those bars are very hard to see.
Are you clicking the mouse ON the choices, or on the almost invisible (at least on my screen) checkbox to the left of the choices? If you click the checkbox then a button appears that you can use to exit the window.
It's not just you. I noticed the same thing. The AI was producing tiny ships that overpowered my medium hull ships, because I couldn't fit enough armament in the medium hull. Miniaturization doesn't seem to do anything.
Some of the techs, for the ships enabled by that tech, list the same ship twice. For example, Stinger II lists "Attacker", "Fighter", and then "Attackerr" again. By the way, despite researching all the techs I could find that listed fighter or attacker as ships enabled by that tech, I have yet to see those ship classes showing up in my shipyard. Is that a bug, or are there yet more techs I have to complete to enable those ships?
When I ask for autopilot routes to be shown on the minimap, I see the one for my flagship but not for any of my colony ships.
In addition to dragging the tech tree around, I found that if you click on a tech (but you have to click in the right spot, it's kind of finicky) it will center that tech in the bottom screen. I like the fact that the techs you can research are ordered by cost, but the navigation of the tree still leaves something to be desired. BTW, given that you can now start out with some of the techs already researched, is there any point in researching the pre-requisi
Thanks for your help. I found the administrative tools, started the services applet, and stopped the firewall and security center. Disciples still wouldn't start. Might just have to write that one off.
Glenn, yes I got SP2 via Windows Update. I'm using XP Home, though, not Professional. Forgive my ignorance, but how do I get to the services applet, and what do I disable when I get there? Is it obvious? Thanks.
I re-downloaded and reinstalled Political Machine and it works OK. So far.
I have Windows XP Firewall turned off, I run Zone Alarm instead. And I was running Zone Alarm before Political Machine and Disciples II quit working. I'm not sure what Disciples II does with internet access. The symptom is that it puts up a small menu that lets you choose between starting two different versions of the game, Gallean's Return or Rise of the Elves, and no matter which one you choose the menu goes away for a half a second, then reappears, bu
Mods are good. Mods kept me playing GC:AP for a long long time. Excellent news.
Thanks, Brad. Looking forward to Beta 3. Based on past experience, I know that you and the rest of the Stardock crew really do listen to your users and beta testers.
Yes, I hope the research window gets a major overhaul. It appears that the tree has been laid out top to bottom left to right, but then you find techs to the right that are prereqs for techs to the left, which is counter-intuitive. Then there's no way that I've found yet to sort the techs to determine which one you could research fastest. And having to scroll right to see additional techs is a pain - if it has to be scrolled, then if I've already researched miniba
After playing a lot more, I think Evil Roy was right (of course). I haven't been able to reproduce the symptom I described earlier.
Evil Roy: I was able to research some techs, so I think I was clicking the research button correctly. I'll try to doublecheck it later tonight.
I'm coming into the beta late, so I apologize for resurrecting this month-old thread, but I noticed that some of the techs I was trying to research would never complete. For example, I selected a tech to research that said it would be researched in 1 week. Turn after turn after turn it stayed at 1 week. Never completed. Is this a known problem? Are there some techs that can't be researched?
Cari: I'm happy you've been able to reproduce the problem, I hope it's the same one I'm seeing. The last archive I have is from July 8th, though, so I might be out of luck unless you issue a new update. Would the problem with the dll's you identify also affect other TotalGaming.net games? The Political Machine stopped working for me about the same time. Also, I enjoyed playing Disciples, but hadn't quite finished all the scenarios before it stopped working (and I installed it again a
GW: Yeah, tell me about it. I spent all afternoon installing Windows 2000 SP4, critical security updates, and then running Symantec Antivirus on my machine at work. Fortunately my home machine is up to date on fixes and virus protection.
Cari: I start GC:AP from the start bar, I get the menu thingy that offers me a choice of map editor, scenario editor, campaign editor, play game, or exit. When I hit play game it I see a blank screen (like it's switching to fullscreen mode and about to start the intro movie) and then it crashes.
Evil Roy: I had successfully installed SP2 and had been running for a while with it. But somewhere in the numerous security updates, the install of .NET required for the ATI drivers, and the ATI drivers, my machine started having problems shutting down and booting. On shutdown it would tell me that "component tray" or "connections tray" could not be terminated, and I'd have to use the task manager to force a shutdown. On startup, about 1/3 of the time the start b
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
While playing GC2 for the first time, I hit alt-tab to switch back to the desktop. When I hit alt-tab to switch back to GC2, I saw a small pop-up window that said "Invalid Call" (and nothing else), and the GC2 session was gone.
For what it's worth, after installing the latest ATI drivers as Cari requested (which required that I install the .NET framework), my system started to degrade. To make a long long story short, this last weekend I wiped my C drive and reinstalled XP. I have now reinstalled Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, and several TotalGaming.net products. Miraculously, GC2 works! I am delighted that I can finally participate in the beta (unfortunately so late that I don't know i
