Played Demigod demo all weekend. I am now convinced and order the retail game from Amazon yesterday. Added bonus: one of the new demigods was announced today!

Looks very good and original. Can't wait to play it.
It's up. Check out the journals
i agree that moddability is important to the longevity of a game and that games like NWN and Morrowind were a leap forward in this regard. However, I agree with others that the single-player campaign in NWN was "weak," "very weak," "average," or whatever adjective you want to use. Personally, I would call it unimaginative rubbish. It was very predictable, the story was mediocre, the AI henchmen was prone to suicidal behavior, and character development (looking at you, Aribeth) was
We’ve also been discussing with GPG new map ideas and new item ideas and have started work on the modding guide.
That's great news about the fixes, modding, and the new demigod. I especially noticed the statement about "new map ideas."
Top 5: 1. Dawn of War (with expansions): One of the best video game ever made. Every single mechanic--including squads, leaders, morale, cover, animations, the resource system, etc.--works beautifully. Also, the game has a great deal of personality. 2. Battle for Middle Ear th 2: Fantastic skirmishes and good use of the Tolkien material. I wish that more games would copy its create-a-hero system. 3

Since I consider Baldur's Gate 2 one of the great classics of video gaming, I am looking forward to Dragon Age. However, I hope that it is more like Baldur's Gate then Neverwinter Nights, which I personally consider the low point in Bioware's evolution. Anyway, I won't be buying Dragon Age before it gets thoroughly reviewed and after I read a lot of player feedback. I would love for the game to only have the disk-check DRM, but I have a churning feeling that EA might still p

This guy should have played solo against the easy AI before going online. About everything in the game has a tooltip, so it's really not rocket science to figure out what's going on after a match or two. A couple of matches ag
Played Dawn of War 2 (with the new 1.5 patch) and the Demigod demo. I was much impressed by the demo and will get the retail game as soon as patch 1.2 comes out.
I was impressed by the demo as well and will be buying the retail game as soon as the 1.2 patch comes out (hopefully with the 2 new demigods). I found the gameplay pretty easy to pick up--I'm a fan of both RTS and RPG games. There is a good amount of customization options for each demigod, and I really look forward to playing the others. I was expecting awful AI based on everything that I have read at these forums, but I was pleasantly surprised. While an AI-co
Okay, thanks. I'll give it a try this evening.
Before downloading the 600MBs, I wonder if the demo is strictly onllne mulitplayer, or can you play it against AI bots only?
Is the demo strictly onllne mulitplayer, or can you play it against AI bots only?
Excellent update, Frogboy! Thanks. I hope that everything stays on track for an August release of 1.2 (with the 2 new demigods). Also, that's good news about the AI tweaks and modding support. I'd love to see modders and Stardock making new maps and demigods on a regular basis.
I totally disagree. You all maybe happy to illegally pirate a game and call it a demo but I and I suspect the majority of people are not. I have friends who want to try this game but are waiting on that demo to decide.
I agree. The game needs a demo. In fact, almost every PC game should have a demo, regardless of when it's released. Besides the legality question, I'm rather picky about what I download from the interne

Thanks for the nice write-up, Aroddo. I've been looking at all three games (never played DOTA). It's a real shame that none of these games really takes single player or AI seriously. I would love to see one of these games do a rich single-player campaign or invest some efforts in coming up with a competitive skirmish AI. I really don't have the time or patience to deal with abusive strangers online, especially when I play games to relax.
Other games are irrelevant. Just because other strategy games came out after Supreme Commander 1 didn't mean that suddenly no one was interested in making maps and mods for it anymore. If you (will) like those two other games more than Demigod, why would you care about custom content in Demigod in the first place?
On the contrary, other games are hardly irrelevant. League of Legends (LoL) will start with 40+ champi

In this order: 1. New Demigods and Maps 2. Mod support 3. Clans, replays, etc.
Oh man ... I read over a page of this before realizing that Frogboy started the thread in 2008. I was really getting excited about all the talk about a new focus on single-player gameplay. It's a shame really, since I would love for Demigod to be reinvented with a serious single-player component.
While I appreciate the update, I still have to keep wondering where Demigod's demo is. I'm not a big RTS fan, so I'm not willing to just jump in just because I hear it's different. I need to experience that to buy in. It's a shame, because I very much respect the way Stardock treats its customers and their approach to development. It's almost a bit frustrating because I want to support the game when I see a real commitment to it, but I've
An interesting thread. I hope that GPG/Stardock is reading it. Anyhow, I definitely prefer a full-blown expansion over a trickle of DLC that nickels and dimes you to death. Assuming that they release 2-4 free demigods and at least 2 free maps (and fix remaining bugs), I would definitely consider buying an expansion. For me, it would need to include 4-6 new demigods, 4-6 new maps, and new creeps. I would pay $20-25 for such a package. If they
