I also ran into this problem. Big annoyance. I was always accidentally opening up the dock when all I meant to do was click one of the browser tabs at the top of my Chrome browser. I seems that if you just touch the edge of the screen for a millisecond and then move away, but keep the mouse within the area that the dock will eventually fill, then the dock will still pop up after a bit. This behavior is what drove me to un-install ObjectDock and install Rock
