Guys, you're attacking your own planet. In The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, the Loonies were (sort of) attacking an enemy planet. And, once again, this bombardment idea is not something designed into the game, it's a fan-fiction level attempt at rationalizing the poorly implemented concept of defended airspace. Worse, it doesn't even manage to rationalize it, because the transports aren't being destroyed, they're being prevented from entering orbit. <b

Miners with rocks could be rationalized if it was only a miner doing the blocking, but scouts, freighters, and empty hulls do the same thing, and the AI builds a lot of empty hull military fleets in the early game. Transports have to travel around planets, stars, rocks, and space junk, at high speeds, just to get to the planet. I don't really think rocks dropped from orbit at a moving target is going to be a major concern. If you argued that the
That 'story' could cover a miner blocking a troop ship, but not the empty-hull 'guard' thing that Moosetek mentioned. I agree with him that part of playing a game is learning its rules and deciding how you want to deal with them. But they aren't sacred just because they're the current rules. I also think it is a bit silly that an unarmed single ship could somehow protect an *entire world* from invading troop ships. And I wonder wh

When I first started playing, it seemed like almost the only weapons the AI used were mass drivers. I was surprised when I first saw one really pound the research line in missiles. I think part of it is random, and part of it is racial preference. Some races have unique low end weapon techs, and in my experience once a race starts with a weapon type it usually stays on that tree.
That's true, although these things are relative, so all we can do is compare it to other existing games. If GalCiv2 is the best of the bunch, then it's the best. If the type of AI that you want in a strategy game doesn't exist (as you said), then you can't fault GalCiv2 for not having it.
Actually, I can and do, especially since some of the things that the AI does, or doesn't do, aren't that hard to change
Hmm. That's interesting. I've found this game to have some of the better AI that I've come across, especially compared to the Civ games.
I mostly agree with you, but better doesn't mean good, and it does have some gaping holes in it. Look at these boards to see loads of complaints about AI logic (or lack of logic), and even more posts about how to exploit AI coding weaknesses for fun and profit.

As much fun as I've had playing, I still have to say that the AI for this game is neither good nor well thought out, especially when it comes to diplomacy. But you do have a couple of misconceptions in your post. Alliances require close relations, the next step after friendly. Race attitudes are what each individual race feels about the other, not a combined relationship ranking. It's easy for a race to like another race that hates them, just as one person can like

Ouch, I was afraid of that. Thanks for the info, I never would have found that thread. I am (or was) connecting through Impulse, and it only has about half of the subforums listed, with bugs not being one of them. After you posted about the bug forums I had to do a google search to find the forums.galciv2.com page.

I posted this in an old thread in the DA section ( http://forums.impulsedriven.com/306718 ), but think I have a better chance at a reply if I re-post it here. Sorry if that offends anyone. I'm quoting the guy who started that thread back in 2008. He never got an answer.
I am playing the Dread Lord campaign but is stuck with the "Escape" mission.
I am playing the Dread Lord campaign but is stuck with the "Escape" mission. In this mission you have to conquer at planet belonging to the Dread Lords. When you invade the planet you have an advantage of -21474 compared to 86 for the Dread Lords. Despite you sending 50000 soldiers to invade the planet against 20 you keep loosing. How can I conquer the planet and get on with the mission? Sincerely Torben Skovbo Hansen &nb

Anything over 51% morale per planet that's at or near it's population cap is usually fine with me, but if you're having problems, or even if it just bothers you: Don't build farms that populate planets over 12B early on, or over 20B later. Research morale techs. Almost all of them give a bonus even if you don't build the structure they unlock. Trade for other race morale techs, even things you know you won't build, for the same reason as

Are you sure they aren't using another type of weapon as a secondary attack, like mass drivers or missiles? Pardon me if you already know this, but unfortunately shields in GC2 aren't traditional sci-fi force fields, they only protect you against beam attacks. I've also taken some damage on ships that should be immune to the weapon type they were getting hit with. Not a lot, but it does happen.

I finally beat this yesterday, but I know it was mostly due to luck in that third try. A little skill and a lot of luck. FWIW, here's what I did (and it's really not much different from what I did the first two tries): (Actually you could probably just skip most of this and start reading from the bolded part way down below) For racial abilities make sure you put a point into Creativity. This is the one vital ability, everything else is de

- Is there a specific player action that causes the DLs to start attacking, or is it just random? My first try I went hundreds of turns before they launched, my second attempt they started attacking in well under half that amount of time. In my second try I even made it a point to Not scout the location of Teth, hoping that if I didn't let them know I was there I'd be able to attack them before they started attacking me. - Have the dev

Um, yeah. But the race declared war on me, not the other way around, and when I opened the trade screens of my allies and clicked on "attack", the race I was at war with wasn't even on the list. I'm new to the game, only had it a few weeks, but I'd think more races would make the game easier in many ways. If you put anything into diplomacy, or play one of the mind control races, you can have most of them attacking each other the entire game, while you sit back and build. You'd also have a lot more customers for trading or selling techs and trade goods. Plus, if you go heavy on influence, who needs transports? Just assimilate the planets that used to belong to

Since this is a new problem for you: First do a spyware and virus scan. You probably don't have any, but it's good to be certain. Make sure you don't have any new programs, or updated programs, running in the background and hogging resources. Check the windows task manager to see how much ram background services are using, and what your CPU performance is. Defragment the disk, but first remove any programs you don't w
