What application were you trying to restore? Click the blue ? in the upper right of Impulse and choose 'View error log'. Scroll to the bottom and copy and paste the line referring to the archive restore in your reply here.

Click the blue menu button in the upper left of Impulse and then click preferences. Click 'Archive & Install'. Place a check in the box that says 'Archive applications before updating'. If you ever need to roll back, click the blue button again and choose 'Restore archive'.

You can use Impulse Anywhere: http://anywhere.impulsedriven.com/Default.aspx Sign in with the same account you signed in here with. You can then download the current installer/archive files which you can then copy to your flash drive and install on your destination PC.

You can setup auto archives for the game each time it is updated so you can roll back if need be. To do this, click the blue menu button in the upper left of Impulse and then choose 'Preferences'. Click 'Archive & Install' on the left and then place a check in the box that says 'Archive Applications before updating'. Obviously this will not help for now but going forward it will.

I recently aquired this and love it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220605&Tpk=g51j As you probably know based on your previous laptop, the Asus are very solid. For what you get for the price it is very nice. Not the best on battery, but hey, look at the power.
