If it's animation (as in "cartoons") your son is aiming at, he could well set up a website and show create his cartoons with Macromedia Flash 5 and there, people will be able to look at his work. Hmmm. Weird. LiteStep has some weird stuff, you know? I can't help you with your problem, since I'm running LS in Win98 and it works like a breeze...except for the systray only showing one icon... Commenting the My Computer line in the step.rc is a good idea. You can always type up another path instead of the *Popup "My Computer" !DynamicFolder:$drives$ line. Instead, write the full path and see what happens. You could do something like *Popup "My Computer" Folder and build from there,

Why would I go back to Win98? I've stayed on Win98 since I got it. I haven't updated, and I won't update. I loathe WinME, and don't even start with WinXP! I find Win98 stable (yeah, the blue screens are present), but why would I update if all my programs work with Win98? Whenever I need a program that is specifically made for WinME/XP, THEN I will upgrade. Not a moment sooner.

Still, I found a turnaround for this problem: I'm getting a new computer Not because of the systray problem, but because they're cheap, and my old fossil of a computer needs a well deserved rest. No, Jafo. I'm not running it from the Explorer shell. I run it as THE shell. I can't tell you my systray commands right now 'cause I'm not home. I'm at work. I'll let you know later tonight. I think if I can't fix this tonight, I will not use systray. I just have like four or five icons there (Quicknotes, anti-virus, task manager, ICQ, and Ultimate Zip), so F-word it.

I did put the NoSystray line in and nothing. I commented it out, and nothing. I am running Win98. The strange thing is when I first installed Litestep, the icons showed, but then, after a couple of days, kapoot! Another thing I noticed...whenever I boot explorer as the shell and then change to Litestep in the same session, the icons appear. But when I boot Litestep directly, they don't show. Weird and frustrating.

I just have popup2.dll and desktop2.dll in the theme I'm making, and whenever I load systray.dll without the config commands, it gives me just that one icon... How do I know if I have a tray saver program?

Well, I'm not home right now, so I can't tell you if I have it like that...except for that noSystray command, which I don't have in my configuration. Still, if I can't get it to work, I will send systray to hell and work with shortcuts for the systray icons...if that can be done, but I would really love to work with systray, instead.

It's not very odd, if you think about it. Skinners are wide spread. You saw that guy from Greece, I am from Panama. Werewolf is from Texas, for god's sake! Or, what you can do, Brazil, is get a computer with Win98 and install it there. It's SO easy installing and configuring LiteStep for Win98. I've had no problems with it yet (except for the stupid systray only showing the Task Manager icon...grrrr!)

I installed that version of LiteStep you said, rshepard, and still the Systray will only show the Task Manager icon only. What am I doing wrong? Should I put a special command on the step.rc for it to show the other icons?

What's so hard about LiteStep? I have like three or four weeks with it, and now I'm already doing my own theme, using modules, scripting .rc files and the like. What's so hard about that? Brazil, puh-lease read the LSDocs before trying to install LiteStep. There's a good "How-to-Install" section in there that could help you out. And how can it crash your PC? LiteStep has never crashed my PC (well, except for the Smog theme which DID crash my PC until I uninstalled it.)
