Hamlet actually means a village surrounded by orchards, but it's commonly (and incorrectly) used as a small village. Get your fantasy terms right or don't post.

Disparaging? If so, I'll try to avoid it in this comment. Although I'd recommend you try to stick to that one yourself if you want others to reciprocate. You know, golden rule and all. (i.e. the following quote)
Fine, I'll play all the Blackjack you guys want except I get to choose what cards you get and what cards I get. We'll play all the chess you guys want except I get to choose your pieces and where they are on the board and the same for myself. No sense in starting with e
*sigh* Ok Carbon, you followed the party line pretty much exactly, so I'll give you the standard rebuttals, albeit abbreviated ones (the full ones would fill volumes, due to the range of material they cover). Read the Koran (or a translation if, like me, you're basically stuck with english). Seriously. I'd personally recommend reading it in a chronological order (it's arranged by chapter size, not order of writing) simply because I find it easier to see flow of ideas that way, but that
Wow, this post really blows my mind. Most of the reasons have already been posted, so I won't get into it. On thing that keeps popping up on these forums, however, is the difference between strategies and tactics and that the former is missing from RTSs. That's simply not true, and I think it's a matter of misunderstanding terms. The dictionary defines Strategy as 1)the science or art of combining and employing the means of war in planning and directing large military movemen
On Islam: according to the Koran, the way a person gets to heaven is by being more good than they are bad (basically), kinda like catholics (not saying Muslims and catholics are the same, just drawing an analogy). The only way a Muslim can be 100% sure he's going to heaven (because Allah didn't bless them with a good-o-meter) is by killing infidels. Seriously, I kid you not. That is why there is a jihad and why Islam was known for centuries as "the religion of the sword". The big differen
Lol! I'll agree that this particular post is amazingly...well, sophisticated is as good a word as any (I'm impressed too), but I'd hardly call these forums sophisticated (especially those posts on the merits of the new patch...) :p And for catholics, what the pope says is pretty major. (Depends how devote they are of course...) According to the catholic church, what he says carries as much weight as the bible, unless I'm mistaken. (If I am, feel free to correct me.) I rather liked Pop
About build orders: build orders are hardly "an atrocity and have no place in a game that claims to be about strategy": even grand champions (in chess) have an opening set of moves. The analysis of the pros and cons of different opening moves is where the strategy lies in the beginning phase of any strategy game. It's when there are only 2 or 3 viable opening strategies that makes games suck. There are many openings that won't work in chess (just dumb ones), but there are tons that will. That's
When they attack, you can focus fire on their capital. A good player will normally retreat it...but might not be able to get out in time.
What where you taking about?
Do you mean you've completely maxed out your fleet size research? That's a really big fleet, why can't you take the other guy?
And I'm actually rather fond of the name. Totally over the top. :)
Well, if you play against someone who doesn't want to attack within the first half of the game, i could see the strat working. But in that case, what's the problem with wasting a couple seconds building scouts? You either have a fast attack (in which case you get caught with your pants down) or you have a long buildup period, and scouts aren't going to hurt much. And i think you were underestimating your times a little: 2 colony ships take more than 3 seconds to build (maybe you meant
Staticstarter nailed it. I think Ironclad did great with their resources. Want pretty ships? Wait till Ironclad's the size of Relic. And some of us are fond of the "garbage scows" look. ;)
Playing AI, i find inhibitors slow down scout ships trying to jump past my outer systems long enough for my in-system fighters to kill them. Never that trick vs players, but if he was trying to slip scouts through, it would probably still work. I agree that they're not exactly the most useful, but i wouldn't go so far as to say useless.
Wow, sorry about the triple post.
This doesn't prove anything? The whole purpose of this experiment (from what i can tell of the poster's intent) is to demonstrate the effectiveness of flaks against the LRM spam. It aptly demonstrates that even if your opponent has more LRMs than you, mix in a few flaks and you have yourself an even match, if not tip the balance decidedly in your favor. Obviously if you're LRM spamming your going to want to knock out the other's capitol first, but that's what the guy with the flaks should be doi

I agree totally with Aspartic. Spamming is just another tactic, and if it's as easy to counter as the poster says (a point i agree with him on) i don't see what all the fuss is about. Personally, i don't like turtlers, but i'm not going to ask the devs to make up arbitrary rules to keep player for turtling because i have a difficult time countering it. The game is not broken--LRM spamming is not an exploit--so something as annoying as unit caps is unnecessary. And just in case you're thinking it
I'm not an expert on network protocols and the like, but from this thread it sounds like there's no extra demand on the host, as each rig runs its own simulation. Is that true?
I agree with CyberMage, but have a question about the physics of the 'fireline bubble'. The post (and comments from other players) made it sound like you build frigates and send them to the enemy, one after another, as opposed to massing a force and then attacking. I've just never heard the term before and would like a little clarification. And Arilias is right, 80 LRMs is a legitimate strategy. And, like every other unit spam in the game, there are several ways to co
