Fleets are made to be managed, not carelessly thrown away. If you make the upkeep system be per-ship or equivalent, a big enough empire can just afford to spam ships ad nauseum since money and resources never run out, and when they drop to low upkeep they'll be raking in huge amounts of money.
Large enough empire can do that anyways.
the galaxy forrge programs can be in ANY folder. on my win764bit i have my galaxyforge in a folder on the desktop, but the maps SHOULD go in the local settings galaxyforge folder
What is the advantage of this [method] over %programfiles%/stardock games/sins/galaxy and modifying the galaxy.manifest in the entrenchment directory? Does the Galaxy Forge folder automagically distribute maps? In practice I've found the Local Settings/Application data folder to be a lot less r
The point is adding more survivavibility to the player if he takes a severe hit, because he gets to pay less upkeep, thus having more money to rebuild.
I would agree with this, however I've been told many times this isn't going to happen. Too many planet rapists, who didn't want a challenge left beta-feedback. Once a major fleet is broken, game over. DrGonzo
I would like to see resource asteroids [qty]/[type] be specifiable in the galaxy file-- and if it's not found specified to use the 'system default' for spawning resource asteroids. DrGonzo

I've never had a problem with SecuROM in my life. I have had problems with your "non-invasive" DRM, in my life.
Let's not turn this thread into a religion one
Not a Windows zealot- used Linux to serve for years... probelms arrive when you want to deviate at all from a cut-and-paste vanilla setup... Yes there are online read-mes for how to do anything with Linux. Problem is, there's 230785275987230987349872 [slight exaggeration] different ways to do it, they change with every x.0.1 release and everyone, it seems, wants to do it differently-- Used it for years, got sick
The average human can see car sized objects coming from kilometers away given good eyesight and good conditions yet in the majority of RTS games out there I barely feel as if my units can see more than 20 meters away
A lot of RTS games don't have a fielded area more than a mile[.6km] across or two-- Many things have to be scaled appropriately to prevent the player from shooting across the map at all times, which would result in negative fun for all players. Does the order in which mods are applied have a bearing on the game? The first one added have priority or the last one? Or anything like that, if say, they have the same files modded. Sorry if this is a dupe post... Im fairly new to the whole mod deal. Dr.Gonzo

When I've created games I noticed it changes my chat channel to from Lobby 1... I suppose if you crashed, logged back into ICO, and changed your channel back to you might be able to speak to the people still playing.. Never tried. DrGonzo
gonzo were you using a mod from 1.02?
Neg, as far as I know it was a vanilla [entrenchment] install-- never went out of my way to add anything extra but my own galaxies and the relevant .tga files-- since the manifest files are overwritten during the patch, I can't figure that mattered. What tool is required to convert bin->ascii? I can't really read the contents of the file to check for relevant line edits-- but Im pretty sure I never made any, as all this is

I have WinXP x64 and have been noticing an increased rate in minidumps since the Entrenchment update... so a partial yes. I can play the game though-- but it's crashed 3 of the last 3 somewhere around 90 minutes in, it also dumped on the end of game stats once-- and on a Marza Barrage once. DrGonzo
