Just curious if any of the non-STEAMers ever check out this page: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/ I mean it's easy to see that the bulk of the playerbase is there for the MP, stat-tracking, social interaction (if you check out the huge MP-based groups etc.). STEAMWORKS is what people want. Just looking at the graph even at it's lowest population there

I'm sorry........brad has just reiterated what the entire gaming-dev world has known for a long long time. This isn't news people. If you think it is/was (and if you feel brad's post was in any way necessary) then you are way out of touch with the 'gaming world' these days.
... can't we just shake this thing like an Etch-A-Sketch and start over? Hello, my handle is boshimi336.
Hello there, my name is the Monk......and I am a STEAMer. It has been 39 months since my last brick and mortar purchase. Don't hold it against me, I won't hold it against you if you don't understand why. <
I also still have boxes upon boxes of video games going back to the original Loderunner for my Apple II. So what? The problem is, that we all wrongly assumed that because we could buy a videogame in a brick and mortar store before and happily bring that little box home with us (storing the CD/DVD on our bookshelf) that we actually became the owners of same. That was never the case and digital distribution etc. only underlines what was always the case. We have

You think it's ok to post on DEV forums that if they insist to do something (publish via STEAM) which you don't like that, that will encourage more piracy? Sounds like 'gamer entitlement' to me. There is another thread (started by brad) discussing that very topic.
What I don't get about the Steamers is just how riled up they get whenever someone says they don't want to deal with Steam (or Steamworks or whatever this crap is about). It is the game R.U.S.E. could/should have been. By the same developers (Eugen) but no longer published by Ubisoft the game currently has an SP campaign (which is really ju

I cannot believe though it's something that great for Stardock to not hold to their own convictions. Yes..yes, "no alternative, there is only Steam" Err Brad, you sold the alternative. None of that means that the "filesystem" itself doesn't initiate more writes to perform its operations. If you're suggesting that seeing only one file on a drive and comparing the very basic information that you can see (ie. filename, date and size) as an indication of filesystem "writes" you aren't understanding what I mean when I say "filesystem features". Those aren't things that only get used sometimes, by the OS. They are inherent differences
My assertion? NTFS is a journaling filesystem that supports file changelogs, security permissions, ACL's, built-in compression, file ownership etc. etc. (the 'features' I was talking about in my original post). All of which present more writes to the file system. The FAT filesystem (even exFAT) does none of those things, hence less writes, which equals longer life. I'm sure with some googling you can get an i
Since the lifespan of flash memory is limited by number of writes and NTFS does in fact write many times more often than other file formats (including exFAT) it does contribute to the sooner rather than later failure of same.
The articles I read on it state that NTFS is fine. I suggested exFAT as the format best suited for USB flash drives because it is a format sort of designed for removable media.
