That's the problem with these games. Its all too apparent (at any non specific juncture in the game) that you have no chance of winning (usually because you didn't expand quick enough initially - another tedious aspect of these games) and who the heck wants to spend an hour loosing by degrees, until the inevitable outcome? Sorry but the game design doesn't allow for non linear progression. You win or you loose slowly. That is a flaw in the game; it doesn't offer enough variety
gubbs
Ok played for a day or two. Lost interest. Why? Every game plays the same. No variation .. as I said previously its just build, stack, attack, build, stack, attack. Its dull. Also I find diplomacy pointless, especially missions as I can't possibly do them all and end up loosing all my allies. Also, the AI has an amazing capacity to spawn huge amounts of capital ships. Its not much fun getting owned by everyone at once - they all seem to just cluster
I disagree entirely re: the lack of a 'campaign'. It isn't neccessary at all. I much prefer setting up my own custom map and variables and playing away ..
LOL! Thanks. I knew it would be painfully obvious .. :)
I bought GalCiv and was expecting a 3d version of that basically, which is largely what I found .. However I was dissapointed with a few things: 1. Diplomacy is poor. Poor to the point of not being bothered with it. One of the reasons I loathe Total War games is because, in effect, you are always at war to the bitter death with everyone. For me, I think its vital that there are several different paths to glory in a RTS/4x game. Its just not much fun to have to wipe everyone
Sorry if I missed this, but I can't find a key bind to pause play. Sometimes its neccessary when micro managing to prevent being over-run. Anyone?
As a newcomer I dont see any point to spies. All the ones I plant get nullified within 2 turns or so, and I can't see any real benefit to espionage in game terms. I always have massive amounts of cash. Occassionally we steal some tech. Thats about it? I don't notice anything else tbh .. Dull and rather pointless as far as I am concerned ..
Might just be me, but do ships always hit each other? Also, is there any actual mathematical process for ship size vs' chances to hit etc? I like the idea of cruisers escorted by fighters with the idea being the smaller more agile ships can avoid the concetrated fire, making small and fast a viable tactical approach?
its all good. I figured I'd try downloading the expansion pack then try movies and media etc again .. I'm guessing there aren't any such things for the first game, but when you install the expansion it finds the relevant content .. been playing all day as it happens. do find a few thing annoying/uneccessary such as logistics and ship/fleet grouping. it has a knock on effect of making it a pita to get troop ships to their destinations without loosing them - as only late
I bought the product, but I am experiencing persistent timeouts whilst trying to donwload aspects of the software. I have tried both servers.
