I use ModernMix all the time, and it is very useful. But there is one situation in which Windows 8.1 is overriding the "windowing" of apps by ModernMix and forcing the display into fullscreen mode: when you click on a link in the Mail app (and some others), a separate window opens for IE in ModernMix, but then Windows takes over and forces both windows into side-by-side mode. I've discovered a simple workaround for this issue, which is working for me. Make sure the desktop is open and a normal desktop programme of some kind is running. Now open the Mail app in full-screen mode. Now press Windows + . (Windows key and the period/full stop key). This will put the mail app into split-screen mode. Stardock clearly have the technology to show the entire Start screen on the desktop, since that's how Start8 works if you set it to pop up a smaller version of the Win8 Start screen when clicking the Start button. I'm having this problem too. Stardock, to test it, you'll need to connect to an email account via the Mail live tile, and then under the account settings, allow notifications for that account. Personally I use the Mail tile as an alert system coupled with a quick email filtering system.
