the into could just give the outline of the story the Dev's have given us already. (deep breath) start with a short snipet of how the vasari had a grand empire, then faced a massive cataclysm and are now on the run, then cut to a growing Trader empire, then them finding the Pre-Advent and banashing them, cut to a florishing trader empire, then the vasari jump in and cause violence of a horrific nature. (breath) the show the start of the TEC warmachine (start building warships, or outfitting

and if you still don't like the idea of phase lanes and want a reason, think of Andromeda (TV) slipstreams. set "lanes" were made through space so as to travel at great speed, but if you vear off from the lane, or try to make your own lane, you can be lost to the eternal abyss of slip (or in this case) phase space. unless your intelligent enough to make your own. thats where the vasari phase gates come in <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 align

Thanks for the praise, nope I work for a boring medical company, but I feel Sins is an amazing game, and I've invested a lot of time into learning about it ( from the forums and IRC) and talking about it to whomever will listen! Quality products need as many promoters as possible! he

just beef up the gauss cannons with a slow reloding and powerful anti-capship cannon. but is only effective when 3 or 4 gauss cannons are firing. so a cap could take on 1 or 2 but anything over would be suicide.

apart from the massive amount of resources and risk there has to be a bigger sacrafice for the player or it would just become a race for a sun buster

what so your nearly dead Cap Ship limps into the enemy crowd and self-destructs to maximize the destructon around it then you get a penalty for blowing up a ship that was about to go anyway

so its either, be attacked by people wielding sporks or fight an army of rubber chickens...... give me a moment to think of a counter....

or you could have the SupWep travel dow phase lanes thus going through critical systems first so you could have ships stationed at all access points from the sun or which ever planet has the SupWep. EDIT: the superdefence ship would have NO offensive capabilities as all nergy goes into shielding. the superweapon would have a longish cooldown time once used to prevent someone just using it over and over again if they manage to take out a superdefence ship. ther

Having your ships suicide should have a negative effect, such as your population on planets goes down, or planets are more likely to revolt against you. since you've just blown up a perfectly good ship with members of families on them. wouldn't put it against the citezens of the planets. but i wouldn't do that......i'm a good tyrant, i mean overlord, no, on third thoughts leader, yeah, thats right. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/

the only problem is that if the SupWep can target, say planets 3-4 jumps away the reciving player would have to build SupDef on all venerable planets so as no to get screwed over
