you could have it in 3 stages or shockwaves, 1st one would be for the ships in very close proximity - they explode too 2nd would be a emp kinda thing and some heavy damage but not destructive enough to explode 3rd would just be a small emp discharge, disabling ships quite far away from the explosion prob the fast ships that escaped. would have to be a amazing graphical explosion though
