Thanks for responding so quickly. I'm only running Object Dock. I don't have the other 2 apps installed. It seems to happen when somthing that causes the desktop to refresh loads. For example the small icons stayed up for quite a while this time until I loaded Trillian and set it to dock to the right edge of my desk top. This caused the desktop to "blink" (for lack of a better term) and the small icons disappeared. This behavior didn't start

When I switch the desktop icon mode to "Show small icons on the desktop" it works fine for about 5 minutes and then all the icons disappear. The only way I can get them back is to return to "Show large icons on the desktop" and reboot the machine.
