A recent news post said "If you have any ideas or suggestions on tweaks and such you'd like to see, visit our forums and we'd love to hear them! We plan to release free updates based on player feedback." Ok, you asked for it ;) Summary: Please allow players to change the game speed during a game. Specifically: 1) Add an in-game function that increments the speed setting to the next level, wrapping around if already at fastest (so slow->normal->fast->slow->etc.) 2) Add

Dear Stardock and Ironclad teams, I would like to express my gratitude for your hard work on Sins of a Solar Empire. It is a truly impressive game, and you have pulled it off in style. Stardock's excellence in the past has given me high hopes for their games, and I'm glad that your collaborative efforts are up to that same standard. Stardock's commitment to customer service has always impressed me, and customer service means "being a servant to the customer" rather than merel

I played a medium map (1 system, ~20 grav wells) with 3 AI and me, and the pirates started small and got enormous. They had like 150 ships in their system, plus 19 defense platforms. I'm not sure I could have fielded a fleet big enough to take them unless I owned the whole map. So I built Novaliths at several planets and blew them away. 3 Novalith shots = dead pirate base = no more raids. The ships are still there and still destroy the poor scouts the AI keeps sending there, but the

The DamagePercentBonus data requires a bit different approach if you want it tabulated: Step 1) Copy and Paste DamagePercentBonus block to a text editor with "regular expression" find & replace capability (I use TextPad) Step 2) run the following regex replace: regex:DamagePercentBonus:\([^:]+\):\([^ ]+\) \([^\n\t ]+\)[^\n\t ]* replace:\1\t\2\t\3 (note that your text editor's regex dialect probably differs from textpad, and you won't have to put the \ character in front

Tabulating such data isn't difficult if you know how to use the right tools, as an example here's how to parse the "DamageData" block in archpsi's post into a table in a spreadsheet program: Step 1) Copy and Paste DamageData block to a text editor with "regular expression" find & replace capability (I use TextPad) Step 2) Strip the "DamageData" header line Step 3) run the following regex replaces: regex:[ \t]*\nCAPITALSHIP[ ] replace:\t regex:[ \t]*\nINTERCEPTOR[ ]<b

This all sounds good - a little r/p/s and a lot of emphasis on role-based ships to encourage combined arms, but not so much r/p/s that battles play like, well, r/p/s. From what I've read, this is about as strong as "r/p/s" gets in the game: - Strikecraft (Fighters/Bombers) do massive damage to ships with ArmorType:"Very Light" - LRM frigates (or at least the TEC one) have ArmorType:"Very Light" - LRM frigates (or any FF/CA/BB other than the flak FF and certain BB specia

I'm not sure that the Pink Space Ponies would need an uber "weapon" per se. Being pink, they could make incredible use of SEP (Somebody Else's Problem) fields as cheap and low-energy cloaking devices. Invisible ships that can still fire, move, and have shields. Game over ;)

Well, theoretically you could simulate the cost of supplying antimatter by causing the standard antimatter regeneration rate to consume a (small) amount of resources. If you run out resources it either slows to half or stops or whatever. That would indirectly make all antimatter consumption (including jumps) non-free. But I doubt that would improve the fun of the game, and would probably introduce un-fun micromanagement and cheesy strategy to avoid the antimatter costs.

I haven't seen this brought up much, so I thought I'd mention: If you buy the Direct Download only with TGN Tokens, it costs the equivalent of $35 ($70 for 10 tokens, 5 for the game), or $32.50 if you already have a TGN membership and just need to buy another pack of 10 ($65 for existing members). Sure, it's $70 total, but you could pick up GC2:TA and Space Rangers 2 with it, or whatever strikes your fancy. $32.50 is a pretty good deal for no box, if you ask me. But I've neve

Raymundus, There will probably be a lot of "fastest-speed-most-resources-fastest-research" folks out there who want a clickfest. But the game they want and the game you want just aren't the same game, so one or the other would be unhappy with the settings. But there are a also number of people like yourself who want a slower paced game (like myself, slowpoke that I am). I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding a game.

Many thanks to Brad for doing the interview and Yarlen for posting it. I'm definitely in info-grazing mode waiting for this thing ;) On the mis-hearing the part about the 15 dollars/month thing, I couldn't quite tell whether he'd said yes or no. Knowing what I knew, I figured he was saying it didn't. If this was my first exposure to the game I might have heard it either way. It's one of the problems of verbal communication and poor hearing. Just happens. Thanks again!

Thanks for the analysis, Micaletti. These are the kinds of calculations I spend entirely too much time doing. I may be missing something here, but it seems necessary to include alternative uses of the 600/50/100 cost of the resource tech. It is helpful to know that 10 extractors allows the tech to pay for itself in 15 minutes, but to be truly useful I would need to know what return I would get on *other* ways of using that 600/50/100. I suppose that's a much more complicated

(de-lurk) Many thanks to the developers (and publishers) for all your work on this game. It looks incredible. I realize the game is WAY past feature-freeze and that I may be too late, but I wanted to chime in on the multiplayer-pause issue. --- Why I want to be able to pause in multiplayer: My wife and I like to play RTS's in cooperative multiplayer versus AIs, and since we really stink at quick decision making in games we make heavy use of pausing and re

An EU-like log would be a major improvement over nothing, but I can understand why a full-blown epic generator seemed too much for the effort involved.

Just had to say it: the mod support in this game is wonderful. If wanton praise isn't interesting to you (the reader), ignoring this post is advised. Previously, I held off on getting higher level mining starbase modules because getting them meant getting really high-maintenance factories that all my nice cheap ones would automatically upgrade into. So I just split the factory research tree into two groups, "Conventional Industry" and "Starbase Industry", fiddled with the tech

Well, it doesn't surprise me that I'm now unable to replicate the behavior since you asked. I started a new Thalan game and the particular ship design that had this problem is now showing up just fine, and my attempts to replicate the problem have failed. If I see it again I'll be more diligent to collect the evidence.

I saw that when I made an upgraded version of the default Thalan Colony ship. Absolutely no 3d model (therefore invisible), but shows up with a colony ship icon on the zoomed out view.

On the other hand, I imagine it would be cost-prohibitive to achieve max espionage on, say, 9 oppoenent AIs. Unless they had burned all their cheap spies already. And those crashes on building a military starbase or checking the full battle option should be submitted to the bug report email address. I haven't seen crashes like that or heard of them.

My condolences, that is very troublesome... I wonder why the memory performance is so poor on some machines; I've played gigantic/abundant-everything through to an influence victory and I keep task manager open next to the game window and I don't think I've ever seen it get to 900 megs (or at least not to 1 gB or more).
