I suppose my biggest concerns have yet to be addressed. Yes, does sound interesting to have infinite galaxy sizes; but what is the point if I can only access them via modding? Furthermore, my experience with Stardock games in the past is that they are not very patch friendly. A game in which I've invested tons of hours into can be rendered worthless with one little 5mb patch, which breaks the old save entirely and forces me to restart. I've restarted GalCiv2 and Elemental more times t
Ok. I'm here with a real computer now. Short answer: No need for a scratch disk. The 64-bit requirement allows us for unlimited galaxy sizes. While we will have official sizes in the game, I wouldn't be surprised to see modders come up with their own sizes that are simply insane. I think GalCiv II topped out with 20x20 galaxy sizes (does anyone remember the specifics?). I suspect our
In terms of the XML, the game so far seems fairly extensible even in this alpha stage via the XML files. I'm a bit confused by the 'omg you have to edit xml files for modding'. How is that in any way a problem just because some people cannot edit XML files. That seems like complaining that Skyrim isnt moddable because you need to use Blender to make new models? Though with regards to mods, since there is likely to be St

Okay look Econoun, I was trying to be very nice and polite. At this point you're becoming very condescending and thinking that I have a misunderstanding when you're not understanding what I'm talking about. I cannot stress enough, I'm purely talking about a feature that the game can manage . You will want the game to manage this for the end-user. I work in technical support, indeed while Stardock does cater to those who are extremely savvy when it comes to comp
You don't need to know how windows manages it's virtual memory in the main it just does it on modern versions of windows though you can set a cap on how much disk space it can use which is easy to do through the control pannel do a quick google if your not sure how. But by and large you don't need to tinker with it.
Okay at this point I can clearly tell that no one is quite understanding what I'm wond
Frankly, Photoshop's Scratch Disk (and related programs' similar items) are artifacts of history, created due to limitations of older OSes. In a 64-bit OS, there's absolutely no reason to use a Scratch Disk anymore, and any such space should just be allocated as Swap Space. All Windows 64-bit systems can handle a minimum of 1TB of Virtual Memory addressing (which is RAM+Swap), and most can do signficantly more (1

Frogboy, I've supported Stardock heavily in the past, even with the disaster that was Demigod. But after the one--two punch of Demigod not living up to it's promises and being kicked in the butt by League of Legends; then having the release of Elemental being very short of all of the proposed promises that were declared when it was announced; I admit, I became wary of Stardock. I shelled out $75 for my edition of Elemental during Alpha, and eventually yes I

With consistent feedback like this, I can easily see why Elemental failed the first time. There is far too much 'accepting' what the game currently is, without really understanding just how clearly flawed it still is and always has been. With the new Fallen Enchantress expansion, I had high hopes the people who have learned from the previous Beta. So far, I'm seeing people being very overly forgiving of the game in its current, quite frankly - bland and meaningless state. I've
- You seem to be totally missing the game mechanic that allows us to upgrade regular soldiers. It's broken right now, so I can see why you might not have included it in your analysis. As a user of GalCiv2:TA, I can say with certainty that upgrading units will do pretty much everything you described in the section about armies getting an equip function.
Your assumptions are incorrect. I'm

What is " Too Complicated " for me is having to build an entire city just to build army units, that's way too much work and way too much management to get the desired outcome: Armies. The idea of building Forts, aka-Mini Cities, will dramatically reduce the need to build so many cities, will require far less building and management, and in the end will reduce the game's over world load on the memory because there are far less structures to render out. Ultimately, it fee

Before we begin , the excuse: "If you don't like the Research Tree, just mod your game to have all of this research done. There, problem solved. " Is not an acceptable response to this thread, as we are discussing the final product which will be sold and introduced to a public. 9 out of 10 players will not mod or adjust Elemental via its XML sheets, this shouldn't be d

I'm impressed with the community feedback that StarDock has been getting these past 10 days, and I'd very much love to see more. Despite is many, many, many flaws - Fallen Enchantress is proving that StarDock is going in the right direction towards improving Elemental. Yet the question I have to ask is this, just how far are they willing to go to make a strong product? Will StarDock just accept the lowest common

So far, from what I conclude is that ever since Beta has opened up - many of the old WoM players have returned and have become much more critical of the product. This is a good thing, and I feel more people should do the same. Many of us are taking the time to provide very deep and detailed posts, and I feel that everything we share should really be addressed. What discourages me is that the current build of FE is 0.77, yet I feel it should be: 0.077. Though this game has been
What it comes down to is that what type of game you want to play. It is impossible to call Elemental a strategy game with Air Walk as is. You just teleport around with one big stack murdering disadvantaged AIs and farming monsters, never having to worry about coming under attack or planning ahead at all. That may be fun but it's not strategy. Strategy games are all about having to move over terrain and planing ahead to counter

I use Large Maps, Cloud Walk was pretty much my primary mode of transport. This is bad for quite a few reason, but also there is a reason for it. Currently the Warfare/Army system isn't working very well, so right now most players just use one primary army. When your empire becomes large, you use Cloud Walk to navigate the one army everywhere as needed. My hope is, once they actually add a real army system that works </span

I don't think Champs should be gods, and this really turns me off. Champs really should be important for the moral and benefit of a larger army. But then again I'm thinking about strategy games that are far better than this game. I think the only ways champs can be worthwhile is if the entire Tactical Battles system is completely and utterly redesigned from the ground up. So far it was always something of a back-seat to the world building portion of Elemental. Now that the World Build
