Nothing wrong with having a forum, in fact it's better to have one than not. I prefer anything that's stable, like those nice forums over at Egosoft: http://forum2.egosoft.com

wo0tabulous!!! Any chance of having up Fleet Admirals with which to manage our tactics non-intrusively?
Uhm... No I'm not sure it's a percent. I went by what anyone who knew had said in the posts regarding the miniaturization bug
http://rapidshare.de/files/23742398/MiniFix.zip After reading numerous posts about how advancing research along the Miniaturization branch will cause your ships to hold LESS than they did before, and noting that many of you mentioned rounding errors, I decided to create this mod that multiplies *all* Ship Capacity and Component Volume values by 100x. I did not remove the % of ship size modifier from components because it *is* a valid convention. Engines go without explanation, and
Well I created a mini-mod to do just that, and right away I've noticed that some of the pre-packaged ship designs take advantage of the rounding errors, most notably the basic Constructor! Here's how it looks normally with zero miniaturization: CargoHull0 = 55 capacity BasicSupport = 2 + 5% BasicSupport = 2 + 5% HyperDrive = 6 + 10% ConstructorModule = 35 + 0% That adds up to about 55.8 capacity units. Since it's always rounded down, this ship desi
I've noticed everyone says that once you get above 400% miniaturization, things level off. I've also heard it said that were all the ship capacities and component sizes multiplied by 10, it would take care of the rounding errors. How about modifying GC2Types.xml and simply multiplying all Size values by 10, including that of the hulls?
Hmm... After running GalCiv2.exe a couple of times I decided to look at the Mod section of the Options menu. I opened the Mod Browser, then clicked "Default" and it said I had to restart the game because the mod directory changed. After I exited the game I opened the Gadget thingy, lo and behold it worked! I guess something got tweaked regarding the game directory when I installed things in the order described by the OP.
Hi, I installed the game through StarDock a few weeks ago before the Collectors Edition I ordered came in the mail. Just today I updated to 1.2, then decided to try installing the Collectors Edition content. Now for some odd reason the buttons on the Gadget doohickey will not function. I can still run GalCiv2.exe manually but some convenience is lost by not being able to start the game from the Start Menu or the StarDock interface.
HEY I have an idea for Tactical Combat: Remember the "Governors" for planets? Well, apply the same concept to fleets! Define a "Fleet Commander", define his tactics, then any fleets you create will have the option to have either default combat behavior or behaviors defined by your Fleet Commander. Commander behaviors could include logics like "If Current Ship is of type (TINY to SMALL) and carries (MASS DRIVER) then first attack Enemy Ships of type (SMALL to MEDIUM) carry
Looks like the music playlist is hard-coded into the executable. It would be MUCH cooler if there were an xml file with sections for "Space", "War", "Losing", "Alliance", "Exploration", etc. Just whatever categories the builtin track selector uses but exposed to the end-user.
I have a Technological Capital on one of my planets, but when I conquered one of the enemy planets I found another Technological Capital already built there. Do I get an additional tech bonus for it? If not, how do I get rid of it to free up a tile?
I name them after their personalities =D Moxy: Tiny angular hull with forked wing attachments, no armor to give room for the 3 railguns. Must always be the first to attack or will fail miserably.. Curmudgeon: Heavily armored large hull, sporting two claw-like arms bent forward from underneath holding 2 plasma weapons in each "hand", and a 5th on its head. Reasonably fast but not much range. Dumpling: Huge angular hull with very few structural additions, mis
Great post, and a lot of good feedback. My main beef with copy protection is that FRICKEN LOUD spin-up noise my high-speed DVD-ROM emits that totally kills the atmosphere in the room, and I'm sure there's wear & tear on the device with that amount of vibration, not to mention the disk getting brushed & scratched as I add/remove it to/from the stack of CD wallets under my desk with other games like X3 and Oblivion.. I wonder how long Stardock will be around though? Does the client ap
My major issue right off the bat is the lack of diagonal mouse-driven map scrolling. Move your mouse pointer to the top-left corner of the screen and it'll either go straight up or straight left, no in-between, so I'm like stair-stepping my view across the grid looking for stuff because I'd rather not click+drag the map and get repetitive stress injury
