Hi! We're going to be adding this to the Pro version of Fences, along with a variety of other customization features :)

Hi Arnold, Nope, you shouldn't lose your settings ; during the uninstall it asks whether or not to erase your settings, just say no. If you'd like to be safer, you can make a snapshot and then backup your folder at "%appdata%\Stardock\Fences" to back-up your snapshots. (put that into the run dialog)
no problemo boss. hey btw guess what logon screen i'm usin? :) thanks back at'cha ;)
Arnold - I think there might have been a problem with the last installer - could you try uninstalling/reinstalling? Thanks
+1 for chocolate =)
Hi boss, Correct, those are two different things. Impulse Now is intended to be a service for customers, as a disablable feature that helps keep your applications up to date, since many people have subscriptions to our software and as such have interest in keeping them up to date with the latest versions to get the most out of their subscription. Similar with games, where for multiplayer games you often need to keep your copy absolutly up-to-date in order to play online multiplayer. H
eek! yes. we see this issue. and it is fixed. update coming soon.
Right, as Zubaz notes, the Fences installer (along with any other freeware/shareware installers we distribute) has been specifically created to not have any of the components such as ImpulseNow be "on" by default. Pretty much the only effects are 10-20MB in your program files directory and a shortcut in the start menu.
Hi Anglepoise, Impulse is included with Fences for the purpose of installing and updating the program, and it installs nothing on your system that causes negitive effects. Nothing about Impulse starts up with your system or gets in your way in any way. So I guess a question I have, is what is the feeling that you have about Impulse that makes you not want it so bad? Thanks for the feedback. -Jeff Bargmann Fences Developer
eek! indeed, tim, we noticed this as well and were able to pin it down. we'll be releasing an update to fix this soon!
Hi Michael, Unfortunatly this is true and won't be fixed until the next release :( Still looking for a way to simulate that behavior, and to do anything in that menu I've had to replace out Windows' normal one entirly. Will definitely find a way though.
p.s. good suggestion, i just don't know how i'd do it!! think it would fit the bill if, in explorer on Vista or Win 7, you could quickly group stuff together via similar method, and it would show up in groups like when you right click a folder and do say "Group By --> Name"?
to me, when i put things on the desktop, its not about things being "easier/harder to find" but rather the fact that the desktop provides "instant access" to the recent/frequent-access things of all my top topics.
You can trademark it in-context :) After that the free version will remain free and there will also be a pro version available. Kindof like ObjectDock and ObjectDock Plus.
Hi praetas - is this using the latest version, v0.98? Thanks
hrm. indeed. noted. perhaps just disabling the background could be an option (not fences altogether)
Hi Wiley, Wondering, where did you install Fences from... from Impulse or from a web-installer? The version you appear to be running doesn't appear to be the very latest, and I think the problem may be resolved for you in a more recent version. That said, we also are planning on doing another new version in the next week sometime. (Last one was from mid-march) Thanks
Hi guys! ObjectDock is in need of some love. Sadly, there have been many updates internally made that help existing situations (like tabs losing their "on top", etc), however unfortunatly ObjectDock is at the current moment stuck inbetween development places as it moves to 2.0, and has been for quite a bit. While progress is continuously made in pieces, it is awaiting that period of several-month-focus that is going to take it all the way. The good news is, that that's coming back up.
Hi JHB, you'll want to back up this registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Fences" in order to backup your Fences settings.
An update made in the RC of Win7 clashed with some of Fences' drawing procedures. All fixed, and an update will be out in the next couple weeks :)
Fixed for next update, coming in next week or two :)
JSeddon: to follow up, I also installed LogMeIn (with its display driver) on to a test XP system of mine, put it into classic mode and disabled all effects / wallpapers / etc, logged in/out with LogMeIn, and no matter what I did I was unable to get it to not work. A few improvements have been made in this area, however, so with any luck the issue will be resolved with the next update coming soon. Please let me know how it works for you! Thanks
More recent versions of Windows 7 made changes that were incompatbile with Fences. (It worked with the version of Win7 of when Fences was last updated.) Fences has been updated to work with the latest Win7 however, and we're planning on releasing the update in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!
hi irokoness - XP? if so, can you post a screenshot? thanks
demizamm - are you able to host games? or does that report back the same thing. thanks
