Fences + VNC = crashed explorer.exe

I've been using Fences for a few months on my home and work PCs, but when I connect to either PC via VNC, explorer.exe crashes on the remote computer and has to be terminated and restarted. I've tried adjusting the VNC desktop/resolution settings but it still seems to cause explorer to crash just about every time I connect.

Are there any suggestions anyone can offer to try to correct the problem?
