Microsoft missed an opportunity with Vista to encourage 64 bit. 64-bit driver support was always going to be an issue but MS put fuel on the fire by refusing to allow unsigned drivers to be loaded (yes, there is a walk-around but it is cumbersome) Not being able to run 16-bit applications is also a concern.

The key point for me is that an "expansion pack" has to live up to its name and actually expand the gameplay. Dark Avatar certainly did this and Twilight of the Arnor looks promising. If there are ways to keep successfully expanding the gameplay then I'm all for expansion packs. However, if the focus of an expansion pack is just going to be rebalancing and/or new content that doesn't add to the gameplay, then it is probably time to start on the sequel.
I could be wrong but I thought that... Drengin are evil. ...might mean that Xeno Ethics would not be in the Drengin research tree.
It's basically when the AI thinks it's worked out your current tactics. I've seen it happen when: 1) I've been attempting to culture flip planets. 2) I've been researching for a tech victory (and not just the final tech either). 3) When bringing ships too close to enemy planets (although, by the time I'm doing this, I don't care what the AI thinks). 4) Other inexplicable moments. The last one of these used to annoy me at times. It even happened when I
I haven't tried this with 1.4 but one thing you can sometimes do is switch to 100% science and go for planetary invasion techs before switching to 100% military. I've won several games this way on Crippling.
Essentially the people who liked the old system liked being able to just turn up their taxes to 70% after building a single morale improvement (usually just the entertainment network). It was trivially easy to have gigantic populations and then tax them at insane levels. It's very easy to overgeneralise your critics... I almost never go
Conditional upon them being optional on an event by event basis. The thing about such unbalancing things is that some of them might be fun and others might just be annoying (presumably which are which is idiosyncatic).
Ok, having played your settings a bit (random for those you don't list)... So...how did I lose? (Of course, IMO applies throughout) There were both problems in some general strategic areas and in terms of specific strategy for the scenario (although you also got some bad luck). I'll give three examples of each. In term
So...how did I lose? I have several thoughts but I usually play Small, Medium or Large maps with 3-5 opponents mostly with random everything. (I play on Crippling and win 2-3 times the games I lose - more before 1.3, kudos ). I will try your settings in c
I can understand the rationale of not wanting people to run at 80% taxation and the like (although it is included as an option...) but I think that part of the way it is being approached is really making other parts of gameplay frustrating. What I am particularly referring to is that way that morale improvements are so weak. This means that the 300% farm improvements are completely wasted as it is just too difficult to maintain the happiness. The same applies to two 100% improvement
Minors are unflippable I've always suspected this but I've seen them building influence starbases; is that for revenue purposes (as influence increases income)? Homeworlds always have higher amounts of influence th
I could be wrong but the AI seems to be very conservative when it comes to invasion tactics - these make a big difference in terms of conquering planets. Also, whether or not the AI develops invasion techs is also important. What type of "advantage" numbers are you seeing?
Played a bit more and I've noticed that the morale thing seems to be more of an issue at the start of the game. Morale as a race ability seems more useful now.
I started a new game and noticed the changes to farming - iirc, capitals also start with 12B food capacity instead of 10. I don't know if it had a great effect on me even though I do play a population heavy strategy (two farms on most planets). I did notice that my citizens seemed unhappy but I chalked it down to not getting a morale resource. Overall though it was a little hard to judge because it is my first proper game on Masochistic (with previous beta, it would give me a mix of i
The AI gets harder to beat with each level, that's the differnce. On most video and computer games they don't tell you the exact bonus's the AI gets but it's obvious the AI gets harder to beat, your just the player you don't need to know how the games done just sit down, shut up and play the game. What's it to you? There is no need to be so ag
You should be able to check what the intelligence of each race is set to in the foreign relations "statistics" area. IIRC, it is under the society tab.
I'm most excited about the planetary environments and the AI options although other features such as an evil campaign also seem appealing. I do have a question though (and I apologise if it has been answered elsewhere). Once the expansion has been installed, will it be easy to "disable"(and "reable") it/parts of it. Could I, for instance, disable spies or play a game without the planetary environments but with the new AI options? If these options exist, are they part of the "new game
Viithtrump, you have enough experience to know what works for you; this is not the same as what works. A classic example of this is "If you can't become godlike in the game then why play it, I mean this is Space man it should be unlimted potential!" - many of us play this as a tbs game as opposed to a technology simulation. I actually think that "unlimited potential" weakens the tbs side of the game. To put it another way, you are presenting yourself as "the knowledgable gamer
Please use paragraphs to make it easier to read your post. Apologies if it is the carriage return thing. These sound more like feature requests than bugs; I think it's a little unfair to call them bugs both because there are people who will disagree with some of them (including myself) and because it unfairly paints the devs as sloppy. Some specific comments.... 2) I'm not sure wh
I've almost been beaten by influence. You get a warning saying basically that you're in danger of vanishing as an independent culture. I managed to hold on through building and upgrading influence starbase just long enough to win a technological victory in the game in question.
