Some of my apps aren't showing up in the Start8 most-recently-used list. Google Chrome is one example. It isn't pinned anywhere, it just never shows up, no matter how many times I run it. (Obviously I can launch it via All Programs.) This is a newly built laptop running windows 8.1 now, previously I was running Windows 8 with Start8 and Chrome showed up like any other app would. I just noticed Excel doesn't show up, either, although Word does. I can't say I see any pat

41. The rename planet option should position the cursor in the text field rather than making me click there. This applies to a whole bunch of input prompts (another one that comes to mind is naming a new ship, which somebody else listed in another post about UI issues). And #10 -- not auto
Well the multiplayer voting poll is finished... we should see the posted results either today or tomorrow. edit: There's definitely an eerie silence as gamers wait for the results. There was a new poll???
6. Actually, the little ship/world pop-up list also has icons on the tabs. But of course, the tabs look completely different from the tabs in other dialogs. Consistency is somewhat lacking throughout. 8 & 9. Given the rather dull, linear nature of the research tree, they should just move the whole thing into a standard collapsible tree-view type of layout. The sprawling tree graphic would only be interesting if you truly had to study it to f
Wow, the last few posts are some of the dumbest things I have ever read. Here's a tip: we're talking about a video game in which things like warp engines are part of the technological landscape. If you have a problem with pretending that something can exceed the speed of light, you're in the wrong place. Either way, an argument based on lightspeed as the absolute upper limit is utterly misplaced here. And ERHALL01, you should ask
Space monsters were cool -- you could bait them with a small, fast ship, and lead them into enemy territory...
Ship-color in general is kind of screwed. It's nearly impossible to choose one for your own race that doesn't closely match one that the AI uses, and of course the game doesn't show you the other colors while you're choosing one. That being said, with 9 races plus minors and things like pirates, it's pretty difficult to choose a set of colors that varies widely...
You don't buy the game, you buy a license to use (play) the game. You don't own the game. The license is non-transferable. That being said, of course it is unfair, but unfortunately that is how the software industry tends to work. You're correct about buying a license, but the software ind
Any sort of multiplayer has to be done by Stardock; you can't just "mod" it in. Think about it. If nothing else, there would have to be a mechanism to record the activities of one player so that the results (such as battles) could be viewed by the other player(s). Actually the same applies to the machine players -- one computer would have to control the AI moves, then record all that activity so it could be replayed for viewing by the other player(s).
Yeah, that's my feeling. However, since the dip text simply uses tags, it'd be a case of introducing the most (grammatically) accurate one, rather than a rework of the system. I'll admit this is a bit of hit-and-run comment, but given the text in the rest of the game, surely you can't expect a gramma
I just put 32 units on a hull with 31 units of space. Shows right there at the top of the ship designer 3D view, "32/31" and the whole bar is red, but I saved it and built one anyway.
The only people complaining about the lack of multiplayer are people who probably complain about everything and just like to whinge. Yeah, it's IMPOSSIBLE that those people choose to discuss it because they actually want to see the option. It's purely an excuse to complain. I can hardly wait for the n
The text in GC1 was much, much better. By comparison, the GC2 text seems like it was just thrown together at the last minute. (I'm talking about the quality of the text, irrespective of the obvious grammar and spelling errors.)
I like that. You're right, logistics would make a lot more sense applied to planetary control than fleet organization. That's an excellent idea for controlling the problem, I think. Regarding the broader question of making exploration more interesting, and not just a land-grab ... I suppose if they were feeling enterprising, a number of separate mini-storylines might be introduced. You find an anomaly or a planet with some interesting clue w
Meanwhile, France has been so worried about the influence of outside cultures that they've been enacting laws which attempt to reinforce their own culture for 30 or 40 years. Ever wonder why there are dialectical differences in large countries, or in smaller countries with large populations at the borders? Cultural influence. Visit El Paso, Texas one day. It's practically more Mexican than American, at this point. Sure, maybe a wholesale, ov
Oh, give me a break. You can't honestly believe they misspelled a couple words to "simulate" translating alien languages. That's a huge leap from the obvious pre-translator gibberish. My god, I've heard of rampant fanboy behavior, but that's just ridiculous. I didn't say I'm not enjoying the game. I said it does create a distraction. This is a message board. People have discussions here. Not all of them are fawning praise. Get ove
Because the AI is not scripted (meaning it's closer to a true AI) Even AI experts argue endlessly about what a phrase like "true AI" might mean. Just because it's written in a slightly more complex language than those normally dubbed "scripting" languages doesn't mean it isn't scripted in A
No, I'm really trying to figure it out. That's why I said it, whereas you're just being a jerk. Is there a benefit to the Metaverse scoring that I have overlooked, other than the obvious bragging rights?
Want to see turn-based tactical combat done right? http://www.battlefront.com/ Check out Battlefront's Combat Mission -- it's a fantastic series of games. I guess in actuality it's a mix of strategy and tactics, but if interactive combat had to be added, I'd love to see it follow this model. By the way, Combat Mission is one of the least-buggy games I have ever bought (and I've been playing computer games since 1979). This is espe
For those of us with a real education, I agree, it's a terrible distraction. The shameless plug for the OP's proofreading services was laughable at best. I am amused by the replies which suggest that proofreading would have been some terrible burden, consuming vast corporate resources that could have been devoted to creating one extra AI, or maybe a cool-looking piece of 3D decoration. No, the poor grammar isn't a game-ruining issue, but it'
I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would care about their Metaverse score.
Also noteworthy -- the two times I bothered with an alliance, if I didn't rush to my ally's aid, my former ally declared war on me. The AI -- I suppose I should say "all of them" -- just can't seem to keep itself out of wars, period.
I think that there should also be a tow-ship, a ship that could move a starbase around, pretty slowly It would be easier to simply offer a late-tech-tree starbase engine module with a move rate of 1.
I'm not sure what kind of comment you're looking for, except that it happens all the time, and has been discussed frequently in the forums.
