Just an FYI, you're wrong about not being able to play steam games unless you're online. But then I doubt that'll go through the red-tinged rage. Also, Steam by itself has, in the eyes of the publishers (who are unfortunately who matter in this respect) atleast, singlehandedly saved PC gaming in recent years. So really, it's a rare treat to see someone be as completely and utterly wrong on every single point as you are JCD.

The Archers support fire makes them invaluable, and they hard counter flying units. Spellcasters I agree with, they're incredibly niche. But Healers are quite useful, as are Druids on the 3rd Continent.

Maybe it is the shoulder pads LOL.
I think it's the more generic setting and, because of that, less varied troop types (no mechanical/magic/mortal). It just generally lost depth compared to FG. I don't recall troop type label issues, but I never really used bombers - Skyhunters just tore them to shreds, as did Archers.

I don't remember Conquered Kingdoms, but I do remember Seven Kingdoms - which was basically a real-time 4x Fantasy game. Kind of a Sins of a Solar Empire but in a Fantasy setting. It was hard as all hell, but really fun once you got the hang of it.

If you don't like X-Box Live, go get a Playstation with PSN or something. A PC has no OS provided game center, so there should be choice. Even Microsoft didn't make their service a hassle, GFW Live is nice, and stays out of the way. Sure it's not as good as X-Box Live yet, but it's doing quite well. At least it onl
Steam is where it is because they forced people to use it in the beginning. Steam provided no added benefit to Counterstrike players.
Yes, Steam got it's first "customers" by forcing them to go to Steam. No, Steam did not provide "no added benefit". Infact, one of the reasons cited for the CS change was being able to implement a more functional anti-cheat tool (VAC). Cheating was one of the most rampant problems for CS and the Steam switch all but completely fixed it.</

That'd be the second continent - the first one is basically a tutorial/level up your guys zone against a General that "Sauron" wants to get rid of anyway. Second Continent means you're fighting someone actually competent - equating to being completely outclassed both in quality and quantity of troops. While having the worse tactical position on the field. God I love Fantasy General. [e digicons][/e] PS.: for the people picking it up now, and having a hard time - try pla

Stardock games don't ship with DRM so don't force users to use Impulse. But those bastards at Stardock make you use Impulse to download free updates. The scum. Why can't they be like those heroes at Valve they put DRM on their games at retail and force me to use their clunky D
If you are serious about turn-based strategy, pretty much all the good stuff over the last few years has come from either Stardock or 1C (Dominions 3 was also good though could have used a bigger budget, and of course some excellent Civ4 mods). Fantasy Wars is a great title but the Orc campaign is punishingly hard at the end. Could have used a tad more balancing. The "turn-limit" in that game is the developers' way of gauging difficulty level. Try

Fantasy Wars is basically a graphical update of Fantasy General - loosing a minimal amount of actual gameplay nuances, keeping the defining ones and, sadly, put it in a much less interesting setting (however, arguably prettier than Sprite-based Fantasy General). If you liked Fantasy General (best fantasy TBS of all time) you'll most likely like Fantasy Wars.

Turn Based Strategy games with multiplayer and how they resolve combat: Master of Orion (2?): Enforced Autoresolve global setting (instant behind the scenes dice throwing) or Turn based tactical combat global setting. Both worked in multiplayer, the turn based one had the usual issues that system has. Sword of the Stars: time-limited real time combat, with optional (per case) autoresolve. This is the model to follow if you want non-turn based multiplayer combat. It get's aroun
I hope something is done to eliminate the tediousness of the endgame combat of MoM-likes. tediousness? how do you mean? I always thought that was where it really started being fun since it wasn't like "I have archers... they shoot you... you die... battle over" or in the case of MoM specifically, "summon creature... let it do the fighting (while probebly shooting with archers)... you di
