Only 1 more day until we get some real info (woot!). I assume there will be a new forum created to allow us to provide ideas/feedback?

Busy week next wee- NotMoM info on Tuesday, Galciv 2.0 on Wednesday. Anything else big?
My wishes: 1. Improve the preference icon from the glowing blue orb to something that implies preferences can be made there. Too many posts are resolved with "click the blue orb" because people don't find it intuitive. 2. Include a crash reporting tool- this will help developers trouble-shoot crashes for Impulse. And allow users to submit their computer's information along with the crash, so they can tell support "check out crash number XXXXX", which will inc

Pushed back about a week- dang. I was looking forward to tomorrow, too. I should know better than get excited about a game that won't be out until 2010, anyway, but this really has me anticipating its arrival, and it's been a long time since I've anticipated an upcoming game.
Yes, SD betas are awesome. And you get to give feedback and actually improve the game you just purchased (although full version users get this chance, too, but usually not for as many radical changes/suggestions). I was thinking about the game last night, and seem to recall reading somewhere from Brad that this game will be an extension of the Gal Civ universe. I think he said it was going to be based around the history of Altaria (and since Altarians use magic, this would
The Beta should start in the spring (I think I heard Feb. last, but I'd imagine later than that). I was just thinking about this last night- and now it's announced ahead of schedule. Pretty cool. SD has done a really good job of keeping quiet about the whole thingm much to my disappointment. ;) Good to know, Brad. Looking forward to seeing what's in store.
I wouldn't sweat it too much right now Solam. Since most users are still on 32-bit, most software is also made for 32-bit, so it couldn't take advantage of the extra memory availability (if you have that much in your machine) on a 64-bit OS anyway. But it's definitely something to keep in mind for the future. Hopefully Microsoft drops 32-bit with Windows 7 so we can actually make some progress.
Kryo- last I heard Microsoft was going to
Good to hear. 64-bit support, while much more widely adopted recently, is still sketchy. Just because something says it works with Vista doesn't mean 64-bit, too.
I'll settle for just a journal update, even if the beta isn't yet available. I have also noticed the trend toward "it'll be ready by X" and "X" is better described as "X + 1" (or 2 if it's late at night). I'd have to give Boogie a huge kudos for posting that there is a delay. Being an community-driven company, it's pretty easy to shout out an update, even if it's "something broke last minute- update you later". Much appreciated! Really looking forward to hear
Why are they DRMing a demo? Isn't the point of it to be free? I can understand restricting IP rights, but do they seriously want to alienate themselves by using Starforce? So, SecuROM on the full version? Another game I won't buy, then.
I suspected DA would get the shaft mostly, too, as that's got to be incredibly complicated- keeping mutliple builds of software all around for later patching. TA sounds like the real expansion I always wished for. Sometimes the best "features" are better management and UI improvements. Speaking of UI improvements- any changes there to speak of? I really like the suggestion of a Starbase list (thanks, <a id="ctl00__Content__RepeaterReplies_ctl17__LinkUser" class="ha
Can I just add how happy I am that you added the largest map size with the TA expansion? It seems like that helped to highlight a lot of the pain points that GC2 suffers from- overt micro-management. And addressing this with the new planet and starbase queues should go a long way in making the game more manageable (at least, it would seem to be that way). I always found it odd that the only governor initially was for ships and not also other things that could use them.
That's great, BoogieBac! I was hoping it might just function identical to mining stations, but this seems like a reasonable compromise. My only two ideas are: *Will you be prompted if it tries to construct something and you don't have enought cash? *Could we create custom build queues? I guess I'm not exactly clear on how I should customize that list, but I could see saving a queue list and then having a drop-down to select from so I don't have to shift up an
This single change may be enough to push me to purchase TA now. My only other major gripe- micromanaging starbases. If that's the next improvement, sign me up! I'm continually amazed at Stardock. You guys rock. [e digicons]:')[/e] To clarify, I think Boogie mentioned being able to dynamically shift production empire wide, correct? If that's true, it would really help responding to Mega Events. For instance, if a disease is a new event and the fix is
Looking at Brad's PR release, he talks about how gamers will be able to pick and choose. Sounds like they should be independent of each other.
I agree, but I guess it's still not clear to me whether there will be prerequisites or not to the others. Many xpacks require other xpacks to play... Hopefully in multiplayer it will be obvious what xpacks players have so if someone wants to play with a certain pack they can do so. In a lot of ways, setting up multiplayer for miro-xpacks will be a lot like setting up a regular game, just with some options people can't choose without the expansion(s). Hopefully you ca
Will the other micro-expansions require previous micro-expansions, too? So, for expansion #2, will you need Entrenchment? Obviously being able to pick and choose would be wonderful, but I could also see making that tough for development.
Gecko is cross-platform. Windows is losing market share. Making Impulse compatible on clients other than Windows would open up markets to linux, OS X, etc. I totally understand why you use IE, I'm just looking into the future and wonder if other platforms will become viable gaming platforms and would hate Stardock to miss out.
Just curious- why haven't you looked at integrating Gecko instead of using IE to render? If Impulse/Stardock ever wanted to go cross-platform in the future, having a browser that wasn't OS-specific would allow for that. Also, IE 8 will be coming out in November. I assume that would mean people will need to update Impulse, right?
Brad, I think you do a great job as CEO for Stardock and with how you direct the company. And it's great you recognize the perceptions of other people and feel free to live up to your own standard instead of others. But...be careful. Having knowledge (and knowing it) easily leads to pride, and pride carries with it a host of bad stuff that could turn your American dream sour. My suggestion? Intentionally do things that would keep you from becoming too lofty. Help answer pho
1. Make the game less focused on adjusting sliders and more on planning strategic decisions. In it's current form, the sliders on Research, Military, and Social should just be on the main screen as I end up going into them almost every turn. And de-coupling the sliders from each other seems to make a lot of sense. I had messing around with sliders that don't adjust like I want! 2. Can we get some sort of intelligent social AI to be enabled/disabled? Maybe the same as what the AI u
You could right-click on the icon, go to the Compatibility tab, and check the box to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: and choose Windows 98". The other options there may help, too. DosBox is also a great method. And if you haven't played it, Civ IV rocks. You can get it with the first expansion for $40. It's both the same as ever, but with nice tweaks that make it more fun and less overly complicated.
Will us non US people find the game easy enough as not all of us understand the american way of elections?
If you can understand the concept behind advertising, you'll figure it out. ;) That's a good question, though. Hopefully there will be a little primer in there on how to play the game for those unfamiliar with the political process. I would say most Americans probably fit into that category, but given the level of coverage this race has had that might not
I could have sworn I read somewhere else that this version was going to be a $40 game and not a $20. Brad made the comment that people kept criticizing the old version because it was missing features, but didn't take the game's cost into account. I'd wager it got scaled back due to Sins and other projects still on tap (Gal Civ 2 and upcoming stuff). I wonder how well received this one will be. It seems like Political Machine is a vehicle for Stardock to advertise their other games/se
