no, i once got a kick arse weapon. it was a rial gun, gave 8 damage (at a stage where the best weapons about were 2-3). But it cost a bomb to ad on to ships and sent maintanace sky high, i think it cost about 120. but its the only time i've ver seen it thats the nano ripper... and its there everytime

The only way I can think of to trick the AI would be to have one or more sacrificial ships with no defenses and some moderate attack power, and one or more ships with higher attack power and much higher defense and hit points. Curious.... what is the amount of ram on your systems. what is the amount of ram on your video/graphics card/adapter. what size map did you play and how many opponents did you play that game? I allied with 2 in one game. The situation was this: 4 other races plust me, Alterians, Yor, Krox, and Drath. I got into a long war with the Krox and they finally surrendered and gave thier planets to the Yor. Then the Alterians, who controlled at least 50% of the map, attacked the Yor. I agree, I really dislike it as it completly takes away from each race being distinct over the course of the game. One good thing about it though is that it is incredibly easy to counter the AI's navy. I have found that once they go down a line of weapon techs (usually beam for some reason) they dont tend to equip ships with different types of weapons. So i just pop on some missles and deflectors and there my navy is more powerful with 1/3rd the ships. But this also leads to HAVING
