Real [original] OS Customizing simply had an entire replacement of the OS Shell [there were many] and Explorer.exe simply was never loaded at all. There was no reverse engineering of anything....you just had someone like LoneRunnr code Litestep from 'scratch' and configure it to be a text-edit for anyone to design their own interfaces. Stardock's software was designed specifically to work with Microsoft's Shell and was entirely legitimate being formal 'Partners' with MS.

[/quote] Object Desktop is Stardock's Subscription Service to their software. It is not a one-off purchase by definition. The current [new] process is that your on-going subscription enables access to all the listed programs and any others that may evolve/change within that subscription time. In the same manner

randyschad ...untick and retick each of those options in reply #107 to be sure they're actually set. A current OD Subscription should show "Fences 5" in the list below the version installed. Example...I'm still on Windows 7 on this machine...so haven't seen an urgency to update the Fences ver on it...so I'm running 3.1.3.3 but Fences 5 is available in my list....;)

You have no need to change from one version to a newer one. If, however you change your OS to a different version you might need to also update any software you want to use on that new OS. This is entirely your choice, no-one is forcing you to buy a different version of anything. Example... I am still using Windows 7 as my primary OS. I don't even have Stardock's 'Start 10 or 11' on this particular machine at all. Similarly I have remained using

The issue with "ThemeUX" and its origins is it came from reverse-engineering of Microsoft Code which is and has always been in breach of Microsoft's EULA. Clearly its use is sufficiently low-key that MS has not acted to enforce their restrictions most likely because it's simply valueless. All that said, this is not the thread for a discussion of the legalities of an alternate system. It is for the showing of 'what is on your desktop'. Let's move on.

Generally those are about a different issue caused by Microsoft forcing third party programs to load after the boot sequence has completed...so Fences was forced to wait and thus forced to not show the desktop icons at the time when the normal sequence would. The "impression" was the boot sequence was slowed...and yes it was... by 0.2 of a second. The only difference was the icons showed later in the sequence. This is not the same 'slow down' you are seeing. Wh

Anything other than those active links no longer exists on the site and thus cannot be obtained. All works uploaded by a skinner/artist are their sole property and can be available or permanently removed as they see fit. The icons and wall etc are no longer available so cannot be downloaded. Anyone who may already have them is forbidden to pass them on to someone else as that is breach of copyright. All commercial links will not function as the commercial oppor

[quote who="pelaird" reply="18" id="3917177"] Most Browsers started marking HTTP websites as unsecure in 2018. Now, most are enforcing it. It could be as simple as the SSL/TLS certificate for that server being expired, and just needs to be renewed. Now....let's see if I got this right....[it's been a little while since the last formal post]. Long ago, in a Galaxy far, far away [March, 2001], Wincustomize.com was created. Slowly, evolving out of the Primordial Swamp there came Users. With the relentless March of Time there were Promotions. [People are promoted due to their involvement with the site and its Community, sometimes through artistic
