Well, GalaxyForge and the in-game map maker have different features. One of the features of GalaxyForge is the ability to make an extremely unbalanced map and dictate where everyone starts, so allowing those maps against random people is maybe not so essential. Just make a map in the in game tool with two planet groups with a planet an asteroid each. Fiddle with the settings until it is how you want it each time and game on.

As it stands, I haven't been able to complete even a single game of SoaSE without a player dropping. Single player, the game just drags on at the end with the AI never surrendering. Online, someone drops or has to go and the game is just done. As the variables are already tracked for relative scoring, could they be used to decide a victor (a la Civilization IV)? No voice chat? Really? I understand that there can be latency and bandwidth issues, but maybe it's a server-side option visibl

A) In beta 2, this actually runs on my work computer (2.4GHz P4, 512MB RAM, no freaking video card at all). Of course, I have to stay zoomed out a bit... B) Maybe create an option for ship icon view (to either always display ship icons or never display them. Maybe even a slider so you can set the zoom out level they show at. This game is absolutely gorgeous, but it's hard to get a screen cap of a sexy space battle if there are little pink fighter and bomber icons flying around. <br/

How advanced will the ecomomic model be? I'd love to see a complete lack of specific economic models in lew of the ability to fully customize the economy (stocks, leave it up to the merchants, federal taxation, whatever you want). Even if it were as simple as the ability to set 100% income tax with higher social spending to simulate communism, not just setting your economy to commie mode.

I have always wanted to see defecit spending in a game... Economics are a powerful force if used correctly, and the ability to run your economy far into the red during war times and recover with realistic penalties would be great. Of course, the AI would have this ability too, anf could get their calculate of to rock your face on tougher difficulties...

I want to know if anyone is making a tool/tool set for GalCiv2. I am working on a simple XML mod tool using C# .NET 2.0 . It'd probably be a good idea to pool resources and ideas to make one really great tool instead of fifteen mediocre ones. I can be contacted by email at timmmeister [at] gmail.com, but I'd love to hear ideas on this thread as well.

One of the best ways to use the expense slider is to minimize wasted production. If your colonies aren't building ships or social projects, put all your money into research. It's not like it takes an hour to change it around or that it's effects aren't obvious. Also, have you tried playing harder difficulties? Try some of the higher ones, and if the production slider is still useless, then you ought to e on top of the metaverse in minutes.

After a short time in every game I have played, the textures of all of the buttons, invasion tactics, research types (i.e. the little beaker next to a science text), and many pictures from event pop-ups appear as colored vertical lines. All the text shows up fine, and when I mouse over buttons, the texture goes back to normal. I tried to take some screenshots, but I don't know where they went.

Completely ignoring the space pirates event, I would love to see trade route piracy as an option. Instead of just eliminating trade routes, players (and AI) should be able to rob them for credits (some percent of the total trade route value). I hate seeing all that booty go to waste...

Victory type awards for getting a certain number of a given win type. There could also be levels to them: 1 tech win - Technological Victory Medal 5 tech wins - Excellent Typist 10 tech wins - Tech Monkey 50 tech wins - Unix Admin you get the picture (and that I can't come up with names on the fly).
