I have tried a few times to create a windowblind skin for my favourite band, Alkaline Trio. Its a punk rock band (some may call them emo ) and they have really great songs. I don't have a problem creating a mock up windowblinds look in photoshop, but actually 'cutting' the image up into windowblind sections, assembling it, and making it WORK is a whole nother story lol. Here is the idea I have in mind:

Being only 17, I guess I am one of the 'young uns' that are being spoken of lol . Clearly I have a computer if I am posting here. I do not however have a cell phone, mp3 player, or the like. I still use the land line phone (mainly cause I don't have a cell, and my parents pay the land line bills ) and I like it. I still use
Spam isn't a problem for me. I use gmail, and hotmail. Take a guess which one receives MORE spam? I bet you're thinking hotmail right? You'd be wrong. I get maybe 2-3 emails tops a day that hit my hotmail, and they go right to my junk email folder anyway. The odd one sneaks thru into my inbox however. Gmail gets 10-20 junk emails a day that always get sent to the junk email folder. Yesterday was the first time in a while that I got spam in m
I use Firefox, and love it . Firefox out of the box isn't all that great, but adding a few extensions makes it perfect (for me). I was an IE user for a long time (forced by my mom, who always uninstalled firefox every time I installed it) but now I can do whatever with my new computer. I have... 4 browsers installed on my computer (Firefox, IE7, Opera, and F
Sign recognition wouldn't be to far fetched of an idea. We already have motion detection, and fairly cheap webcams with "eyes". They can see limbs, faces, facial features etc and manipulate them (putting on masks, clothes, etc). Signs wouldn't be THAT much harder. Better speech engines would be great indeed .
Just some thoughts: Does the background image, and the progress bar have the EXACT same palette? Meaning 16 colors (4bit). All the colors have to be the EXACT same, in the EXACT same places in the palette. I find irfanview great for this task. Is the gradient you are using part of the background, or the progress bar? I would personally make it part of the background. Make sure that you are using .jpg (can .gifs be used??) for BOTH progress bar and background.
If you purchesed it, I think you should have received a link to the full version. When you install full versions, they refuse to do so until a serial is entered into a provided box. So check the email again, look in SDC (Stardock Central; a program), or email tech support for a link (he can do that right??). The serial is useless for the free version of WB5, you need the full version download .
Just upgraded. All my extensions work. Its a beautiful thing. Running smooth, fast, and uses about 60 MB... been browsing for 3 hours. This is nice . Also a quick note, the built in spell checker is my best friend now... I LOVE it and I am sure everyone else loves that I have it when I make posts
My FF 1.5.0.7 uses 80 MB 45 or so (only after browsing a while does it get up to around 80) when I first load it. Each new tab (depends on content of the tab) uses about 400 KB - 1 MB more to the total. On a bad day FF only gets up to about 120 MB ram (from my 1 GB). No slowdown, and works great. I shall upgrade to FF2.0 as soon as all my must have extentions are ported/debugged .
Ummm... none . I am thinking that the amount of posts, news articles, RSS's, and other material I read online equal up to a few books though . Not the same... I know. Sue me .
5 year birthday you say ^_^? I propose a universal price drop so I can actually afford one of these babies . I shall be getting the 60 GB iPod video (unless yet ANOTHER new one comes out) in about a month and a half .
There are ALOT of differences. To many to meantion here, but I shall attept to give it a go and name the main ones. Windowblinds - Skins the explorer shell (winxp blue to make it look different). - Can make oversized start buttons and glow effects. Thats really the basics of windowblinds. Not a whole lot more to it than that (minor things like wallpaper changer, and alpha transparent windows are included). Desktop X - Widgets and gadgets. Thes
Place your icons where you want them. Then right click on the desktop and make sure that ONLY "align to grid" is checked (or having nothing checked). Now log out of your account, and log back in. They should be in the same place. Now rebooting/restarting/etc shouldn't affect your icons... in theory. IconX may mess with the icons, I really don't know because I don't use that program. If this doesn't work, try disabling each customization program one by one until the cul
lol, glad I could help you out . Have a great day ^_^.
Just extending on what Bebi Bulma said, you need the following: NextStart
Try clicking "View > Status Bar" and see what happens. It should pop up . Close the folder, and bring another one back up. See if the Status Bar is still there . Hope thats what you're talking about
Happy birthday Bandit ^_^. Hope you have a greaaat day
huge bump . I am going to assume in Object Desktop 2007, but thats just a guess. I do not know for sure. You can download themes and apply them manually if you so choose Click For Gallery
Okay, thank you for your reply Koasati . I shall modify the skin to my liking. I'm sure I can do that so long as I don't distrubte . Thanks for your reply
I have a bit of an issue I'd like to fix . I have been using Buuf for a while now because it looks great, and it has everything I really need in a skin. I just however, got a whole lot of new peripherals for my computer. They are ALL black and blue... and I wanted a skin to match. So I downloaded the newly created skin, Ares. Here is my problem: <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/keikonium
Its only a minor graphical glitch, and doesn't affect proformance or anything. Here are the images: ^^ Thats photoshop. The buttons are fine. ^^ Thats Illustrator. The - button is a bit off, and the X button doesn't exist. The function for that area is still the same however. Thats all
The only program I have come across with WB5 issues is Adobe Illustrator CS2. I can't really complain tho . My advice: add the programs that give you problems to the application exclusion list in WB5. See if that fixes your problems.
I got no transfer whatsoever from microsoft for like 10 minutes . My internet connection sucks anyway. So I have to revert to a torrent (still only about 60kbs lol). I wish I had high speed . Thanks for letting us know that its released <img src="http://images.stardock.com
lol, I actually doubt this. In my experience (family and friends families ) most adults (late 30's) didn't even know how to operate a computer let alone play games. Except scrabble and other "online board games". But who knows, maybe I am wrong. And according to this study... I am lol.
Hmm... so just two normal installs for two programs. I heard things about some MSN version (I think it was 7.5 actually) not working correctly on Windows 2000, but if it worked before windowblinds... I don't know what to tell ya. When I meantioned "patched msn" I meant with such programs as "mess patch" or "a-patch". Some programs like that have the ability to disable the flashing toolbar button. I don't know what the problem is, sorry <img src="http://images.stardock.
